''Liza! Liza!'' is the debut studio album by American singer Liza Minnelli. It was released on October 12, 1964, by Capitol Records. The album contains her interpretations of twelve pop standards. It was recorded in June 1964 at Capitol Records' New York studio at 151 West 46th Street. The album was re-released in 1988 by Capitol as ''Maybe This Time – Liza Minnelli Sings the Sensational Hit from the Film "Cabaret"''. Album information When Liza Minnelli recorded this album she was just a teenager. At seventeen she had starred in the Off-Broadway revival of '' Best Foot Forward'' in 1963. The publicity surrounding her abilities led to television appearances and a single on the Cadence Records label. This single, "You Are for Loving", a song she performed in the show, reportedly sold half a million copies. Peter Matz (November 6, 1928 – August 9, 2002) was an American musician, composer, arranger and conductor. ''Cabaret'' is a 1972 American musical drama film directed by Bob Fosse, and starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Grey. Set in Berlin during the Weimar Republic in 1931, under the presence of the growing Nazi Party, the film is loosely based on the 1966 Broadway musical ''Cabaret'' by Kander and Ebb, which was adapted from Christopher Isherwood's semi-autobiographical novel ''The Berlin Stories'' (1945) as well as John Van Druten's 1951 play ''I Am a Camera'', which was itself adapted from Isherwood's novel. Tom Jones (born February 17, 1928) is an American lyricist and librettist, best known for ''The Fantasticks'', '' 110 in the Shade'', and ''I Do! I Do!''. He was born in Littlefield, Texas. Harvey Lester Schmidt (September 12, 1929 – February 28, 2018) was an American composer for musical theatre and illustrator. He was best known for composing the music for the longest running musical in history, ''The Fantasticks'', which ran off-Broadway for 42 years, from 1960 to 2002. Biography Schmidt was born in Dallas, Texas. He attended the University of Texas to study art, but when he met Tom Jones at the university, he started to accompany the drama student on the piano. They soon started writing musicals together, the first being a revue. However, after serving in the Army, Schmidt moved to New York and worked as a graphic artist for NBC Television and later as an illustrator for ''Life'', ''Harper's Bazaar'', ''Sports Illustrated'', and ''Fortune''. "Try to Remember" is a song about nostalgia from the musical comedy play ''The Fantasticks'' (1960). It is the first song performed in the show, encouraging the audience to imagine what the sparse set suggests. The words were written by the American lyricist Tom Jones while Harvey Schmidt composed the music. Biography Allen was born to a Jewish family in Troy, New York and had 4 children: a son, Gordon, and 3 daughters, Pamela, Diana, and Katie. Al Stillman ''(né'' Albert Irving Silverman; 26 June 1901 Manhattan, New York – 17 February 1979 Manhattan, New York) was an American lyricist. Biography Stillman was born to Jewish parents Herman Silverman and Gertrude Rubin ''(maiden).'' He adopted the name "Albert Stillman" as a professional pseudonym. He chose the name, reportedly, because it was the recognizable surname of a well-known New York banking family. He was Jewish. He attended New York University.
