Max Planck Institute For Gravitational Physics
The Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) is a Max Planck Institute whose research is aimed at investigating Einstein's theory of relativity and beyond: Mathematics, quantum gravity, astrophysical relativity, and gravitational-wave astronomy. The institute was founded in 1995 and is located in the Potsdam Science Park in Golm, Potsdam and in Hannover where it closely collaborates with the Leibniz University Hannover. Open access (OA) is a set of principles and a range of practices through which research outputs are distributed online, free of access charges or other barriers. ''Living Reviews'' is an open access journal series, which publishes regularly updated peer-reviewed review articles in various fields of science. Its concept of "living" articles takes advantage of web-based electronic publishing and allows authors to update their articles with the latest developments and research findings. The concept of ''Living Reviews'' was developed by Bernard Schutz and Jennifer Wheary, who started the first journal, ''Living Reviews in Relativity'', in 1998 at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics. Bernard Schutz
Bernard F. Schutz (born August 11, 1946, in Paterson, New Jersey) is an American and naturalised British physicist. He is well-known for his research in Einstein's theory of general relativity, especially for his contributions to the detection of gravitational waves, and for his textbooks. Schutz is a Fellow of the Royal Society and a Member of the US National Academy of Sciences. He is a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Cardiff University, and was a founding Director of the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) in Potsdam, Germany, where he led the Astrophysical Relativity division from 1995-2014. Schutz was a founder and principal investigator of the GEO gravitational wave collaboration, which became part of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC).
