Living Dangerously (film)
''Living Dangerously'' is a 1936 British drama film directed by Herbert Brenon and starring Otto Kruger, Leonora Corbett and Francis Lister. It was made at Elstree Studios. The film's sets were designed by the art director Cedric Dawe. In New York City a successful doctor shoots dead a man who calls at his apartment one night, then explains to his friend the district attorney the reason: He and the dead man had run a medical practice in London which was broken up amidst charges of medical malpractice. Herbert Brenon
Herbert Brenon (born Alexander Herbert Reginald St. John Brenon; 13 January 1880 – 21 June 1958) was an Irish-born U.S. film director, actor and screenwriter during the era of silent films through the 1930s. Brenon was among the early filmmakers who, before the rise of corporate film production, was a genuine “auteur”, controlling virtually all creative and technical components in crafting his pictures. The quality of Brenon's artistic output rivaled that of film pioneers D. W. Griffith. Brenon was among the first directors to achieve celebrity status among moviegoers for his often spectacular cinematic inventions. Among his most notable films are Neptune's Daughter (1914), Peter Pan (1925), A Kiss for Cinderella (1925), and the original film version of Beau Geste (1926). Graham Greene
Henry Graham Greene (2 October 1904 – 3 April 1991) was an English writer and journalist regarded by many as one of the leading English novelists of the 20th century. Combining literary acclaim with widespread popularity, Greene acquired a reputation early in his lifetime as a major writer, both of serious Catholic novels, and of thrillers (or "entertainments" as he termed them). He was shortlisted for the Nobel Prize in Literature several times. Through 67 years of writing, which included over 25 novels, he explored the conflicting moral and political issues of the modern world. He was awarded the 1968 Shakespeare Prize and the 1981 Jerusalem Prize. He converted to Catholicism in 1926 after meeting his future wife, Vivien Dayrell-Browning. Jimmy Godden (11 August 1879 – 5 March 1955) was a British film actor. He was educated at Christ's Hospital and was in the Civil Service before becoming a concert pianist. Godden later turned to the stage and made his debut in pantomime at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, then going on to the London West End doing a number of comedies and revues. James Carew
James Usselman (February 5, 1876 – April 4, 1938), known professionally as James Carew, was an American actor who appeared in many films, mainly in Britain. He was born in Goshen, Indiana in 1876 and began work as a clerk in a publishing firm. He began acting on stage in Chicago in 1897 in ''Damon and Pythias''. In 1905, Carew moved to England, where he continued his stage career starting with the Lyric Theatre, London, later working in two plays with Shakespearean actress Ellen Terry, one of the best-known and noted British actresses of the day. In 1907, he married Terry, who was thirty years his senior. The couple separated in 1910 but there is no record of divorce. In fact he is listed as living with Ellen at Smallhythe in the 1911 Census Carew made his screen debut by 1917, when he appeared in the film ''Profit and the Loss''.
