The Livigno SkyMarathon is an international skyrunning competition held for the first time in 2016. It runs every year in Livigno (Italy) in June and is valid for the Skyrunner World Series. Skyrunning is a sport of mountain running up to or exceeding where the minimum average incline is 6% over the total distance and at least 5% has an incline of 30% or more. The climbing difficulty does not exceed II grade UIAA. Poles, crampons and hands may be used to aid progress. The governing body is the International Skyrunning Federation. The sport comprises a number of different disciplines from the short, steep Vertical Kilometer to the more popular SkyRace and SkyMarathon. Ultra SkyMarathons are becoming increasingly popular as are short vertical SkySpeed races which include skyscraper racing. Livigno (; local lmo, Livígn ; german: Luwin) is a town, ''comune'' and a special-administered territory in the province of Sondrio, in the region of Lombardy, Italy, located in the Italian Alps, near the Swiss border. The Skyrunner World Series is an annual international championship of skyrunning (high altitude endurance races) and the official International Skyrunning Federation (ISF) race circuit for mountain running. Elisa Desco (born 30 May 1982) is an Italian female sky runner and mountain runner, world champion at the 2014 Skyrunning World Championships held in Chamonix, and European champion at the 2008 European Mountain Running Championships held in Zell am Harmersbach.
