Liverpool Ramblers Association Football Club is an English amateur association football, football club based in Crosby, Merseyside. The club is affiliated to the Lancashire County Football Association. The first and second team compete in the Liverpool Old Boys League whilst the Vets and third team do not compete in any leagues and only play friendly games. History The club was formed in 1882, and was the first side from Liverpool to enter the FA Cup. The club was involved in helping John Alexander Brodie, John Brodie pioneer the use of goal nets. The club entered the FA cup 3 times between 1882 and 1884 with their best finish seeing them reach the second round of the competition in the 1882-83 competition. The Ramblers played its first game ever in 1882. Crosby, Merseyside
Crosby is a coastal town in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, Merseyside, England. Historically in Lancashire, it is north of Bootle, south of Southport and Formby, and west of Netherton. It abuts the areas of Blundellsands to the north and Waterloo to the south. It is approximately 7.2 miles (9.6 km) north of Liverpool City Centre. History The town has Viking roots in common with the other ''-by'' suffixed settlements of Formby to the north and Kirkby to the east. Crosby was known as ''Krossabyr'' in Old Norse, meaning "village with the cross". The settlement was recorded in the ''Domesday Book'' of 1086 as ''Crosebi'', and by the year 1212 had become ''Crosseby''. The Lancashire County Football Association, also known simply as the Lancashire FA, is the governing body of football within the historical county boundaries of Lancashire, England. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. __NOTOC__ Aigburth Cricket Ground in Liverpool, England, is the home of Liverpool Cricket Club. The club was founded in 1807 and is the oldest amateur sports club in Merseyside. The ground hosted its maiden first-class cricket match in 1881, a fixture between Lancashire and Cambridge University. The ground was kept by the former first-class cricketer George Ubsdell for a 12-year period following the end of his first-class career in 1870. The Liverpool County Football Association Senior Cup, commonly known as the Liverpool Senior Cup, is a football knockout tournament involving teams from the city of Liverpool, England and surrounding areas. Gerard Dewhurst
Gerard Powys Dewhurst J.P. (14 February 1872 – 29 March 1956; sometimes referred to as Gerald Powys Dewhurst) was an English cotton merchant and banker. He was also an amateur footballer, and earned one international cap for England in 1895, playing as an inside forward. Early and personal life Born in London, he was the son of George Bakewell Dewhurst and Frances Ada Dewhurst (née Mann). He grew up at Oughtrington Hall in Lymm, Cheshire, and was educated at Repton School, where he was a member of the school football XI in 1889 and 1890, and Trinity College, Cambridge. While at Cambridge, he earned a "blue" in 1892, 1893 and 1894. In 1897 he married Mary Brougham, by whom he had two sons.
