The Paco de Lucía Sextet is a flamenco music sextet, formed by guitarist Paco de Lucía and other musicians. The band has released three albums. Flamenco
Flamenco (), in its strictest sense, is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia, and also having historical presence in Extremadura and Murcia. In a wider sense, it is a portmanteau term used to refer to a variety of both contemporary and traditional musical styles typical of southern Spain. Flamenco is closely associated to the gitanos of the Romani ethnicity who have contributed significantly to its origination and professionalization. However, its style is uniquely Andalusian and flamenco artists have historically included Spaniards of both gitano and non-gitano heritage. PolyGram N.V. was a multinational entertainment company and major music record label formerly based in the Netherlands. Paco De Lucía
Francisco Sánchez Gómez (21 December 194725 February 2014), known as Paco de Lucía (;), was a Spanish virtuoso flamenco guitarist, composer, and record producer. A leading proponent of the new flamenco style, he was one of the first flamenco guitarists to branch into classical and jazz. Richard Chapman and Eric Clapton, authors of ''Guitar: Music, History, Players'', describe de Lucía as a "titanic figure in the world of flamenco guitar", and Dennis Koster, author of ''Guitar Atlas, Flamenco'', has referred to de Lucía as "one of history's greatest guitarists". Rondeña
A Rondeña is a ''palo'' or musical form of flamenco originating in the town of Ronda in the province of Málaga in Spain. In common with other ''palos'' originating in Málaga, the rondeña antedated flamenco proper and became incorporated into it during the 19th century. History The rondeña has its origin in the '' fandango malagueño'' and it is said that it is "the oldest fandango actually known". According to the experts, the name does not derive from "nocturnal rounds", as some have suggested, but is based solely on the name of the town Ronda. The rondeña spread enormously throughout Andalusia in the 19th century, to such an extent that numerous foreign observers, touring the region at the time, referred to it later in their writings. ''Bulería'' (; interchangeable with the plural, ''bulerías'') is a fast flamenco rhythm made up of a 12 beat cycle with emphasis in two general forms as follows: This may be thought of as a measure of followed by a measure of (known as hemiola). For dancers, it is commonly viewed with a compas or bar of 6 counts as opposed to 12. An interesting counting method has been used by Pepe Romero, in his book ''Classical Guitar Style and Technique'', which is 2 measures of time followed by 3 measures of time. This puts the emphasis on the last beat of each measure: When performed, the ''bulería'' always starts on beat twelve of the ''compas'', so the accented beat is heard first. A flamenco guitar is a guitar similar to a classical guitar but with thinner tops and less internal bracing. It usually has nylon strings, like the classical guitar, but it generally possesses a livelier, more gritty sound compared to the classical guitar. It is used in ''toque'', the guitar-playing part of the art of flamenco. Ramón De Algeciras
Ramón Sánchez Gómez, better known by his stage name Ramón de Algeciras, (5 February 193820 January 2009) was a Spanish flamenco guitarist, composer and lyricist. He was the most prolific collaborator of Paco de Lucía, his younger brother, recording with him on most of his albums from the 1960s to 1980s and performing with him throughout much of his life as a rhythm guitarist, including the Paco de Lucía Sextet, formed in 1981, which also included his other brother Pepe de Lucía. Carles Benavent
Carles Benavent (born 1 March 1954) is a Spanish flamenco and jazz bass player. Biography Benavent was born in the Poble Sec neighborhood in Barcelona. He started playing the bass when he was thirteen years old, attracted by blues and rock, Jimi Hendrix in particular. A totally self-taught jazz bassist, he founded the group, "Música Urbana" with which he recorded two albums. He came to create a new form of playing the electric bass "Flamenco style", using the pick to create a special type of alzapúa (style of plucking the strings with the finger and pick). His preferred instrument is the fretless bass, which was pretty uncommon at the time, so he can be considered one of the fretless bass pioneers in Flamenco music. One of the hallmark pieces that first showcased his unique playing was his duet with Paco de Lucia on Paco's album ''Solo Quiero Caminar'', called "Monasterio De Sal" (Colombiana). Pepe De Lucía
Pepe de Lucía (born José Sánchez Gomes; 25 September 1945 in Algeciras, Cádiz, Spain) is a Spanish flamenco singer and songwriter. The son of flamenco guitarist Antonio Sánchez Pecino, and the brother of flamenco guitarists Paco de Lucía and Ramón de Algeciras, he adopted the stage name ''Pepe de Lucía'' in honor of his Portuguese mother, Lúcia Gomes. He is the father of Spanish pop singer Malú. He released his debut recording, ''Los Chiquitos de Algeciras'', with his brother Paco de Lucía in 1961.
