''Live at Rockpalast'' is a two-disc live album by the Welsh rock musician John Cale. It was released in October 2010 on German record label Made in Germany. It was recorded during his two shows for German music television show ''Rockpalast'' on 14 October 1984 at Grugahalle, Essen (first disc; with full band) and 6 March 1983 at Zeche, Bochum (second disc; Cale solo with guitar and piano). John Cale
John Davies Cale (born 9 March 1942) is a Welsh musician, composer, singer, songwriter and record producer who was a founding member of the American rock band the Velvet Underground. Over his six-decade career, Cale has worked in various styles across rock, drone, classical, avant-garde and electronic music. He studied music at Goldsmiths College, University of London, before relocating in 1963 to New York City's downtown music scene, where he performed as part of the Theatre of Eternal Music and formed the Velvet Underground. Since leaving the band in 1968, Cale has released sixteen solo studio albums, including the widely acclaimed '' Paris 1919'' (1973) and '' Music for a New Society'' (1982). "I'm Waiting for the Man" is a song by American rock band the Velvet Underground. Written by Lou Reed, it was first released on their 1967 debut album, ''The Velvet Underground & Nico''. Peter Rüchel (9 March 1937 – 20 February 2019) was a German music journalist, producer and founder of the WDR show Rockpalast, which since the mid-1970s has been hosting concerts by national and international bands and solo artists and broadcast them on German and European television. Life and career Rüchel was born in Berlin in 1937 as the son of a violinist (the father was head of a musical quartet before the war) and a teacher. He grew up in West Berlin and attended a humanities-oriented gymnasium with subjects such as Latin, Greek, classical music, literature and theatre. At age 16, he was an exchange student for a year in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After graduating he studied German studies and philosophy. In 1968 he applied to Sender Freies Berlin (SFB). Andrew Heermans
Andrew Heermans (born September 21, 1953) is an American musician, mixer, audio, and mastering engineer. His three brothers and one sister were raised by their parents in Woodstock, New York. He started playing guitar during those years (1960–69) and began performing with bands on a regular basis upon a family move to Lafayette, Colorado, in 1969. After a very brief stint at the University of Colorado, Heermans returned to regular performing in soul and rock bands and began recording sounds and music. John Densmore
John Paul Densmore (born December 1, 1944) is an American musician, songwriter, author and actor. He is best known as the drummer of the rock band the Doors, and as such is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He appeared on every recording made by the band, with drumming inspired by jazz and world music as much as by rock and roll. Raymond Daniel Manzarek Jr. (né Manczarek; February 12, 1939 – May 20, 2013) was an American keyboardist. Robert Alan Krieger (born January 8, 1946) is an American guitarist and founding member of the rock band the Doors. Love Me Two Times
"Love Me Two Times" is a song by the American rock band the Doors. First appearing on their second studio album '' Strange Days'', it was later edited to a 2:37 length and released as the second single (after "People Are Strange") from that album. The single reached number 25 on the charts in the United States. "Love Me Two Times" was considered to be somewhat risqué for radio airplay, being banned in New Haven for being "too controversial," much to the dismay of the band. Pablo Picasso (song)
"Pablo Picasso" is a song written by Jonathan Richman for the proto punk group the Modern Lovers. The song was recorded in 1972 at Whitney Studios in Los Angeles, and produced by John Cale, but was not released until 1976, on the Modern Lovers' self-titled debut album. The recording featured Richman (lead guitar, vocals), Ernie Brooks (second guitar), Jerry Harrison (bass) and David Robinson (drums), with Cale playing the repetitive hammered piano part. The central character of the song is the charismatic 20th century artist Pablo Picasso. With dry wit, the lyrics suggest that women never rejected Picasso's romantic advances, despite his short stature. "Well he was only five foot three but girls could not resist his stare / Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole / Not in New York".
