Tame Impala
Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project of Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker. In the recording studio, Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music. As a touring act, Tame Impala consists of Parker (guitar, vocals), Dominic Simper (guitar, synthesiser), Jay Watson (synthesiser, vocals, guitar), Cam Avery (bass guitar, vocals), and Julien Barbagallo (drums, vocals). The group has a close affiliation with fellow Australian psychedelic rock band Pond, sharing members and collaborators, including Nick Allbrook, formerly a live member of Tame Impala. Originally signed to Modular Recordings, Tame Impala is now signed to Interscope Records in the United States and Fiction Records in the UK. Parker originally conceived the project in Perth in 2007. Kevin Richard Parker (born 20 January 1986) is an Australian singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer, best known for his musical project Tame Impala, for which he writes, performs, records, and produces the music. Parker has released four Tame Impala albums: ''Innerspeaker'' (2010), ''Lonerism'' (2012), ''Currents'' (2015), and ''The Slow Rush'' (2020). He has won 13 ARIA Music Awards, two APRA Awards, and a Brit Award, and has received four Grammy Award nominations. In addition to his work for Tame Impala, Parker was the drummer of Pond from 2009 until 2011. "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" is a song by Australian psychedelic rock band Tame Impala. It is the seventh track on their 2012 album ''Lonerism'', and was released as its second single on 1 October 2012. The single features artwork from Australian artist Leif Podhajsky, who also created the artwork for their first album, ''Innerspeaker''. In an interview with Rick Rubin on the podcast ''Broken Record'', Kevin Parker said he wrote "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" after being inspired by "Walk in the Park" by Beach House. At the 2013 West Australian Music Industry Awards, the song won Single of the Year. Music video The music video was directed by Joseph Pelling and Becky Sloan, best known as creators of ''Don't Hug Me I'm Scared'' web series. The music video consists of psychedelic clay animation. ''Tame Impala'' is the second extended play (EP) by Australian musical project Tame Impala, released on 11 October 2008 by Modular Recordings. It reached number 1 on the Australian Independent Record Labels (AIR) Chart and number 10 on the ARIA Physical Singles Chart. Three singles were released from the EP: "Desire Be Desire Go", " Half Full Glass of Wine" and "Skeleton Tiger". All three received national radio airplay on the Triple J network. " Half Full Glass of Wine" reached number 75 on the Triple J Hottest 100. The song is also featured on the Hottest 100 compilation CD/DVD. It was reissued in 2013 as part of the Record Store Day with the track "Wander" making its first appearance on vinyl. Recording The songs on the EP were selected from a list of approximately 20 songs that Kevin Parker had recorded as far back as 2003, which he had sent to their label Modular Recordings. "Half Full Glass of Wine" is a song by Tame Impala, released in 2008 on their self-titled second EP. The song was later featured in the end credits for the show ''Entourage'', season 7, episode 3 on July 18, 2010. "Half Full Glass of Wine" came in at number 75 in the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2008. Composition "Half Full Glass of Wine" was written by Kevin Parker in the key of C Minor in a 4/4 time signature. It begins with hi-hats setting the tempo and rhythm, before an overdriven electric guitar riff comes in. The tempo is then gradually slowed down, rallentando. The main guitar riff then comes in, which is a C minor pentatonic blues riff, and the bass guitar doubles it. The first verse features a call and response effect where the vocals are backed only by a bass guitar rhythmically playing the C root note. "Mind Mischief" is a song by Australian psychedelic rock band Tame Impala. It is the fourth track on their 2012 album ''Lonerism'', and was released as its third and final single in January 2013. ''Innerspeaker'' is the debut studio album by Australian musical project Tame Impala. Recorded at a remote beach shack in Western Australia during the winter of 2009, the album was released on 21 May 2010 by Modular Recordings. ''Innerspeaker'' was acclaimed by critics for its reminiscence of 1960s psychedelic rock. The album peaked at number 4 on the ARIA Charts and was certified platinum in the country. At the J Awards of 2010, the album won Australian Album of the Year. It was recognized as the 83rd Best Album of the Decade So Far by ''Pitchfork'' in August 2014. In March 2021, a 4xLP reissue of the album was released to celebrate the album's 10th anniversary. Composition "Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind?" was written by Kevin Parker in the key of F major in a 4/4 time signature. It is based around four repeating barre chords of A minor, B-flat major, E minor and F major, played on electric guitar, to create a trance-like, hypnotic and spacious atmosphere, while the bass is played rhythmically to fill in the guitar spaces. Record Store Day
Record Store Day is an annual event inaugurated in 2007 and held on one Saturday (typically the third) every April and every Black Friday in November to "celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store". The day brings together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores around the world. Riviera Theatre
The Riviera Theatre is a concert venue located on the north side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. About Built in 1917, it was designed by Rapp and Rapp for the Balaban & Katz theatre chain run by A. J. Balaban, his brother Barney Balaban and their partner and brother-in-law, Sam Katz. It is an example of French Renaissance Revival architecture. It later became a private nightclub in 1986. The theatre is located in the Uptown section of the city, at the intersection of Lawrence, Broadway and Racine. The area has several notable theaters, including the Aragon Ballroom, which is only 0.2 miles away. Since 2006 it has been owned by Chicago-based Jam Productions (itself owned by Jerry Mickelson and Arny Granat), which claims to be the "largest independent producer of live entertainment in the United States".
