''Live Phish 2.28.03'' is a live album by American rock band Phish. It was recorded February 28, 2003 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. This show marks the return of one of the most beloved and requested Phish songs ever – Mike Gordon's "Destiny Unbound" – which had not been played since December 1991. The song's lengthy absence from the rotation fueled its legendary status (much like Grateful Dead's "Unbroken Chain") to the point where fans would go to extreme lengths to encourage the band to perform the song, such as having the entire front row recite the first verse via flyers passed out to concertgoers by eager fans. The performance, having not been performed for the previous 796 shows, was considered the ultimate retirement breakout in the band's history (although at the time, 12 other songs had breakouts with gaps of longer duration. Phish
Phish is an American rock band formed in Burlington, Vermont, in 1983. The band is known for musical improvisation, extended jams, blending of genres, and a dedicated fan base. The band consists of guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman, and keyboardist Page McConnell, all of whom perform vocals, with Anastasio being the lead vocalist. The band was formed by Anastasio, Gordon, Fishman and guitarist Jeff Holdsworth, who were joined by McConnell in 1985. Holdsworth departed the band in 1986, and the lineup has remained stable since. Phish began to perform outside of New England in the late 1980s and experienced a rise in popularity in the mid 1990s. In October 2000, the band began a two-year hiatus that ended in December 2002, but they disbanded again in August 2004. "Harry Hood" is a song that is commonly performed live by the American band Phish, first released on their 1995 live album ''A Live One''. It is one of Phish's most frequently performed songs, featured in 391 live performances since its debut on October 30, 1985. Background "Harry Hood" refers to the Hood Dairy Co., a New England dairy company based in Boston. While the band was living with Brian Long in Burlington, Vermont next to a Hood milk plant, "Harry Hood" was the company mascot of the Hood Milk Co., and this character was featured in a 1970s television commercial in which people opened their refrigerator to find Harry Hood standing inside. Joseph Linitz
Joseph "Joe" Linitz (born 1965) is an American lyricist whose songs, co-written with Phish bassist Mike Gordon, include the title track from Phish's ''Round Room'' and Train Song from '' Billy Breathes''. In addition, Linitz supplied lyrics for the songs "Car Carrier Blues", "With" and "Clay" for Gordon's first album with Leo Kottke, '' Clone'', as well as two songs ("Over the Dam", "Invisible") on the subsequent Gordon/Kottke album '' Sixty Six Steps''. Linitz also cowrote Gov't Mule ballad "Banks of the Deep End" with Gordon and Warren Haynes. Linitz is the son of Brandeis University professor and Manhattan Project scientist, Henry Linschitz, and an artist mother, Suzanne Hodes. Linitz graduated from Commonwealth School in Boston, and from Oberlin College. ''Junta'' ( ) is the debut studio album by the American rock band Phish. The album was self-released by the band in May 1989 without the support from a record label, and received a wider release when Elektra Records reissued it on compact disc in 1992. ''Junta'' was preceded by two demo recordings – ''The White Tape'' (1986) and '' The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday'' (1987) – which circulated among the band's fanbase but did not receive an official release. The album was released on February 18, 1992, by Elektra Records and was the band's debut release for a major record label. The album is dedicated to Nector Rorris, the proprietor of Nectar's in Burlington, Vermont, where Phish played their first bar gig followed by a series of monthly three-night stands, saying that the experience "taught us how to play".
