Shonen Knife
Shonen Knife is a Japanese pop-punk band formed in Osaka in 1981. Influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, the Beach Boys, and early punk rock bands such as the Ramones, the band crafts stripped-down songs with simple yet unconventional lyrics sung both in Japanese and English. The band has been credited with making "the international pop underground more international" by "opening it up to bands from Japan". They have also performed as a Ramones tribute band under the name the Osaka Ramones. Guitarist/singer Naoko Yamano is the only member to have remained with the band for its entire history; her sister Atsuko Yamano was a founding member and, after a long hiatus, returned to the band in 2016. They have released 21 studio albums; their most recent album '' Sweet Candy Power'' was released in 2019. ''Brand New Knife'' is a 1997 album by the Japanese rock music, rock trio Shonen Knife. The Japanese version of this album contains six tracks with English lyrics and seven versions of the tracks with Japanese lyrics. The U.S. version features all 13 tracks in English, with the Japanese versions of the seven tracks featured as bonus tracks. Good Charamel Records is an indie record label based in Buffalo, New York started by Robby Takac, founding member of the American Rock band Goo Goo Dolls (Bassist and Vocals) in 2003. Specializing in female fronted Japanese rock bands, the label began signing and releasing music in North America for local Buffalo bands as well as releasing compilations and charity discs in the Western New York area. As a result of a 2006 tour of Japan with the Good Charamel act The Juliet Dagger a relationship was struck between the legendary Osaka pop punk band Shonen Knife and Good Charamel Records, Good Charamel hosted Shonen Knife's tour of America with The Juliet Dagger and Verona Grove in 2007. Damnably is a small independent record label and music publisher based in London, England, which also organises live events and tours for its roster of acts. History The label was founded in 2006 by George Gargan, of the band Former Utopia. He was later joined by filmmaker Janice Li. The label's first release was a single by Former Utopia, and its first high-profile signing was Shonen Knife. The label has specialized in signing international bands, particularly from Asia. P-Vine Records is an independent record label based in Tokyo, Japan. History It was started in 1976 by Blues Interactions, a firm founded in 1975 by Yasufumi Higurashi and Akira Kochi, as a record label focused on black music. The label name comes from the "Peavine Branch" of the Mississippi Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad sung in blues songs by Charley Patton and Big Joe Williams. In the early years, the label focused on blues and R&B but gradually expanded to wider genres such as jazz, Latin, funk, j-pop, house music, and garage punk. A remastered version with all-English lyrics (catalog number BF-7CD) was on sale during the band's European tour in 2009. MCA Records was an American record label owned by MCA Inc., which later became part of Universal Music Group. Pre-history MCA Inc., a powerful talent agency and a television production company, entered the recorded music business in 1962 with the purchase of the New York-based US Decca Records (established in 1934), including Coral Records and Brunswick Records. MCA was forced to exit the talent agency business in order to complete the merger. As American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into a top film studio, producing several hits.
