''Live Blackjazz'' is a live album by the Norwegian band Shining, released through Universal/ Indie Recordings on November 11, 2011. Critical reception The live version of the album ''Blackjazz'' is smashing, All About Jazz critique John Kelman, in his review of Shining's album ''Live Blackjazz'' states: Here the band culls five tracks from Blackjazz, and another five from ''Grindstone'' (2007) and ''In the Kingdom of Kitsch You Will Be a Monster'' (2005). This islive versions of tunes that differ markedly from recordings on previous studio albums, yet maintain the essential characteristics that are the hallmark of Shining's music. Shining (Norwegian Band)
Shining (stylized as SHINING) is a Norwegian band from Oslo. Thirteen musicians have been a part of the band's lineup in its history, with singer, guitarist, saxophonist, and songwriter Jørgen Munkeby as its leading force and only constant member. The band is also called SHINING (NOR) to avoid confusion with the eponymous Swedish black metal band. Shining was created in 1999 as an acoustic instrumental jazz quartet consisting of Munkeby, drummer Torstein Lofthus, pianist Morten Qvenild, and double bassist Aslak Hartberg. They released their first albums ''Where the Ragged People Go'' and '' Sweet Shanghai Devil'' in 2001 and 2003 respectively. Bernt André Moen (born 17 February 1974) is a Norwegian musician. He is known as a jazz pianist, composer and music teacher. Career Moen was born in Kristiansand. He has been involved in a series of metal bands, and is now associate professor in performing rhythmic piano at the University of Agder. Torstein Lofthus
Torstein Lofthus (born 10 March 1977) is a Norwegian drummer and composer who has been a member of the bands Shining, Elephant9, the Mathias Eick Band, D'Sound, and Ebersson/Zanussi/Lofthus. He is married to Hege Lofthus. Career Lofthus has had a major influence on Norwegian music through studio work, live concerts and teaching at Norwegian Academy of Music and at University of Agder (the Faculty of Fine Arts). Peter John Sinfield (born 27 December 1943) is an English poet and songwriter. He is best known as the co-founder and former lyricist of King Crimson, whose debut album ''In the Court of the Crimson King'' is considered one of the first and most influential progressive rock albums ever released. Michael Giles
Michael Rex Giles (born 1 March 1942) is an English drummer, percussionist, and vocalist, best known as one of the co-founders of King Crimson in 1969. Prior to the formation of King Crimson, he was part of the eccentric pop trio Giles, Giles and Fripp along with his brother, bassist Peter, and guitarist Robert Fripp. They were active between 1967–1968. Ian Richard McDonald (25 June 1946 – 9 February 2022) was an English multi-instrumentalist, best known as a founding member of the progressive rock band King Crimson in 1968, as well as the hard rock band Foreigner (band), Foreigner in 1976. McDonald began his music career as an army musician, where he learned the clarinet and taught himself music theory. He also taught himself to play flute, saxophone, guitar and piano. He co-founded King Crimson and appeared on their 1969 debut album ''In the Court of the Crimson King'', playing Mellotron, keyboards and woodwinds. Greg Lake
Gregory Stuart Lake (10 November 1947 – 7 December 2016) was an English musician, singer, and songwriter. He gained prominence as a founding member of the progressive rock bands King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP).
