''見殺し塔からずっと: Live at Shimokitazawa Shelter'' is the first DVD release by Japanese band Boris. It was captured on their Black Summer tour on July 12, 2003. The first ten tracks are songs from the show, which are mostly from the '' Akuma no Uta'' and '' Heavy Rocks'' albums. Tracks 11-14 are music videos made by the band by Foodunited and Fangs Anal Satan. A loose translation of the first bit of the title is, "From The Tower That Turns A Blind Eye To Death". Boris (band)
is a Japanese band formed in 1992 in Tokyo and composed of drummer Atsuo, guitarist/bassist Takeshi, and guitarist/keyboardist Wata. All three members contribute vocals. Boris has released more than twenty studio albums on various labels around the world, as well as a wide variety of live albums, compilations, EPs, singles, and collaborative albums. They have collaborated with acts such as Sunn O))), Merzbow, Keiji Haino, and guitarist Michio Kurihara. History Boris was originally a four-piece band with Atsuo on lead vocals, Wata on guitar, Takeshi on bass, and Nagata on drums. The band is named after a song of the same name on the Melvins album '' Bullhead''. Boris's debut album ''Absolutego'' was released in 1996 on their own record label Fangs Anal Satan. Stoner Rock
Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily distorted, groove-laden bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Due to the similarities between stoner and sludge metal, there is often a crossover between the two genres. This hybrid has traits of both styles, but generally lacks stoner metal's laid back atmosphere and its usage of psychedelia. Bands such as Weedeater, High on Fire and Electric Wizard creatively fuse both styles. Akuma No Uta
is the fifth album by Japanese experimental music band Boris. Originally released in 2003 on Diwphalanx Records with minimalist artwork, it was re-issued in 2005 on Southern Lord Records with a different cover and more music. Releases In addition to running an additional 7 minutes, the opening track of the Southern Lord version is a totally different take; both use the same riff from "Akuma no Uta," but the original, shorter track repeats it far less and opens with over a minute of ambient, resonant amp noise absent from the longer version. An edit of the long version opens 2010 compilation ''Boris / Variations + Live in Japan'', closely resembling the running length of the original intro, but sourced from a different point halfway through the 9 minute version and with a fade in. Music videos were made for the songs "Ibitsu" and "Furi" and can be found on the 2003 DVD ''Live at Shimokitazawa Shelter''. ''Heavy Rocks '' is the fourth studio album by Japanese band Boris, released in 2002. It is the first of three Boris albums titled Heavy Rocks, with the others released in 2011 and 2022; all feature the band exploring hard rock and heavy metal sounds. Alternate takes of "1970" and "Wareruraido" were used for a single, while re-recordings of "Korosu" and "1970" with Michio Kurihara appear on ''Boris / Variations + Live in Japan.'' Music videos were shot for the tracks "1970" and "Korosu" and were originally viewable on FoodUnited's website. Both videos were later included on the 2003 DVD ''Live at Shimokitazawa Shelter''. Amplifier Worship
''Amplifier Worship'' is the second album by Japanese band Boris. Excluding the "one-long-song" albums, this is one of only two Boris full-lengths to have vocals on every song (the other being 2008's ''Smile''), and the first time that Takeshi performed lead vocals for the band (although Atsuo performs lead vocals on "Huge"). "Vomitself" was written and laid down separately at Sound Square while the other four songs were recorded at Sound Crew. According to Japanese production company FoodUnited, videos were shot for "Hama" and "Kuruimizu" but were not released to the public. The Southern Lord vinyl issue features new artwork but uses the same crossfading despite the track order change and the inability to segue across sides; these issues are solved either with new crossfades (the two songs on side A) or cut offs (the rest of the sides).
