''Live at 3'' is a popular Irish afternoon chat show broadcast live on RTÉ 1. Presented by Thelma Mansfield and Derek Davis, it was RTÉ's flagship daytime show from 1986 until 1997. Ireland's most successful Daytime TV programme, reaching audiences of 300,000 at times, both young and old. The Monday edition was produced for older viewers and evolved from "Going Strong" presented by Bunny Carr. Its theme music was 'Arlecchino' by Rondò Veneziano. History In 1986 RTÉ had a new corporate brand for both of its stations RTÉ 1 and RTÉ 2. As a result of this the daytime service split its programming between adults and children. Light entertainment encompasses a broad range of television and radio programming that includes comedies, variety shows, game shows, quiz shows and the like. In Great Britain In the early days of the BBC virtually all broadcast entertainment would be considered light by today's standards, as great pains were taken not to offend audiences—which is not to say that they always succeeded in this. Singers, magicians and comedians were drafted from the music hall circuit to fill the schedules. Stage acts were transferred directly to screen and in the case of productions such as ''Sunday Night at the London Palladium'' the broadcasts actually came from large theatres. (RTÉ) (; Irish for "Radio & Television of Ireland") is the national broadcaster of Ireland headquartered in Dublin. It both produces and broadcasts programmes on television, radio and online. Jean Byrne
Jean Byrne (October 17, 1926 – August 9, 2015) was an American educator who was the first lady of New Jersey from 1974 to 1982 during the tenure of her former husband, two-term Governor Brendan Byrne. Early life and education Byrne was born Jean Featherly in Newark, New Jersey, to George Featherly and the former Jane Crysler. She was raised in nearby West Orange. She received her bachelor's degree from Bucknell University and her master's degree from New York University. Career She taught second grade at an elementary school in West Orange, New Jersey. However, she was forced to leave her teaching position once she became pregnant with her first child, who was born in 1954. Evelyn Cusack
Evelyn Cusack (born 3 November 1957) is Head of Forecasting at Met Éireann, having worked there since 1981 and also served as a well known RTÉ weather presenter since 1988. She is former Secretary of the Irish Meteorological Society. Personal life Cusack was born in Clonaslee, County Laois, the middle child of a family of seven. She attended University College Dublin, earning a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics (1979) and a master's degree in physics (1984). Career Cusack joined the Irish meteorological service Met Éireann in 1981. She has also been a weather presenter on RTÉ since 1988. In 1999, Cusack and other well-known weather presenters such as Gerald Fleming, who were all professional meteorologists, were temporarily let go from their jobs at RTÉ in favour of younger, less qualified presenters. Gerald Fleming
Gerald Fleming (born 20 November 1957) is an Irish former meteorologist and weather presenter. He joined Met Éireann in 1980 and worked as co-ordinator of the RTÉ Television weather team. He served as Head of Forecasting in Met Éireann until his retirement in December 2017. He is now involved with the World Bank and travels all over the world helping other countries improve their weather stations.
