Liu Zhongyi
Liu Zhongyi (; October 1930 – 5 January 2020) was a Chinese politician who served as Minister of Agriculture from 1990 to 1993 and Vice Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission from 1985 to 1990. Biography Liu was born in October 1930 in Wuhan, Hubei, Republic of China. He also used the names Liu Xinglu () and Liu Youting (). In February 1949, he enlisted in the People's Liberation Army during the Chinese Civil War. After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, he studied statistics at Zhongyuan University () from 1951 to 1952, and joined the Communist Party of China in October 1954. From May 1956, he worked in the hydraulics department of the State Planning Commission. During the Cultural Revolution, he was banished to the countryside to perform manual labour. Cultural Revolution
The Cultural Revolution, formally known as the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, was a sociopolitical movement in the People's Republic of China (PRC) launched by Mao Zedong in 1966, and lasting until his death in 1976. Its stated goal was to preserve Chinese communism by purging remnants of capitalist and traditional elements from Chinese society. The Revolution marked the effective commanding return of Mao –who was still the Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)– to the centre of power, after a period of self-abstention and ceding to less radical leadership in the aftermath of the Mao-led Great Leap Forward debacle and the Great Chinese Famine (1959–1961). The Revolution failed to achieve its main goals. The National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China (NDRC), formerly State Planning Commission and State Development Planning Commission, is a macroeconomic management agency under the State Council, which has broad administrative and planning control over the economy of Mainland China.
