Liu Chien-kuo
Liu Chien-kuo (; born 9 March 1969) is a Taiwanese politician. A former member of the Yunlin County Council, he has represented Yunlin County in the Legislative Yuan since 2009. Education Liu has earned two bachelor's degrees, one from National Open University in public administration and the other from Meiho University in social work. Political career Liu served on the Yunlin County Council before running for a legislative seat in 2008. In January 2008, he filed a lawsuit against Chang Sho-wen, accusing Chang of bribery. He had lost to the Kuomintang candidate in the legislative elections held that month and in June 2009, Chang's election was annulled. Liu faced Lee Ying-yuan in a primary, and received the official backing of the Democratic Progressive Party. A by-election for Chang's vacated seat was held in September, and Liu won handily. Lee Chin-yung
Lee Chin-yung (; born 1 August 1951) is a Taiwanese politician. He was a member of the Legislative Yuan from 1993 to 1997, when he was elected Mayor of Keelung. Lee remained mayor until 2001. He served as acting Yunlin County magistrate in 2005, and later served a full term in the office between 2014 and 2018. Following an unsuccessful bid for reelection as Yunlin County magistrate, Lee was appointed chairperson of the Central Election Commission in 2019. Education Lee received his bachelor's and master's degrees in law from National Chung Hsing University and National Taiwan University, respectively. Early political career Lee was a judge on the Hualien, Yilan and Taichung district courts, prior to sitting on the Legislative Yuan from 1993 to 1997 as a representative of Keelung, followed by a single term as mayor of Keelung. Yunlin County Members Of The Legislative Yuan
Yunlin County (Mandarin pinyin: ''Yúnlín Xiàn''; Taigi POJ: ''Hûn-lîm-koān''; Hakka PFS: ''Yùn-lìm-yen'') is a county in western Taiwan. Yunlin County borders the Taiwan Strait to the west, Nantou County to the east, Changhua County to the north at the Zhuoshui River, and Chiayi County to the south at the Beigang River. Yunlin is part of the Chianan Plain, a flat land known for its agriculture. Agricultural products of Yunlin County include pomelo, tea leaves, suan cai, papaya and muskmelon. Yunlin's rivers give it potential for hydroelectricity. Douliu is the largest and capital city of Yunlin. It is the only county on the main island of Taiwan where no city with the same name exists. Ractopamine
Ractopamine () is an animal feed additive used to promote leanness and increase food conversion efficiency in farmed animals in several countries, but banned in others. Pharmacologically, it is a phenol-based TAAR1 agonist and β adrenoreceptor agonist that stimulates β1 and β2 adrenergic receptors. It is most commonly administered to animals for meat production as ractopamine hydrochloride. It is the active ingredient in products marketed in the US as Paylean for swine, Optaflexx for cattle, and Topmax for turkeys. It was developed by Elanco Animal Health, a division of Eli Lilly and Company. As of 2014, the use of ractopamine was banned in 160 countries, including the European Union, China and Russia, while 27 other countries, such as Japan, the United States, South Korea, and New Zealand have deemed meat from livestock fed ractopamine safe for human consumption. The status of United States beef imports has been an issue in Taiwan–United States relations. Controversy has centered on cases of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE; commonly known as mad cow disease), and the use of ractopamine as an additive in feeds. The conflict has sometimes been called the "beef war" in the media, similar to the UK–EU Beef war over BSE.
