Little Tony (film)
''Little Tony'' ( nl, Kleine Teun) is a 1998 Dutch comedy film drama directed by Alex van Warmerdam. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival. In a review for '' Variety'', David Rooney called the film " droll comedy", but also mentioning that its "both blacker and more tightly focused". Plot Farmer Brand can't read and he is quite happy with that. His wife, Keet, who has to read him all the subtitles on the television, isn't. She decides to hire a teacher for him. This is a beautiful young woman, called Lena. Brand falls in love with her. To his puzzlement and dismay Keet encourages him, because as she says she doesn't want a husband with another woman in his head. She even goes so far as to claim, she's just Brand's sister. She also wants Lena to give Brand and her a son. The love between Brand and Lena does not grow stale as Keet hoped after the birth of little Tony. Alex Van Warmerdam
Alex van Warmerdam (born 14 August 1952) is a Dutch screenwriter, film director, and actor. He is also a painter. Life and career Van Warmerdam was born in Haarlem, a city in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. He was cofounder of the theatre group Hauser Orkater (which later became the musictheatre group Orkater). In 1980, he founded the theatre group De Mexicaanse Hond (The Mexican Dog), together with his brother Marc van Warmerdam. This is the name under which all the shows since 1989 have been released. He made his first feature film in 1986: ''Abel''. He plays a role in each of his films so far, with the exception of Grimm (film), Grimm (2003). Alex van Warmerdam is married to Dutch actress Annet Malherbe, who plays parts in most of his films and also functions as a casting director. A comedy film is a category of film which emphasizes humor. These films are designed to make the audience laugh through amusement. The 51st Cannes Film Festival was held from 13 to 24 May 1998. American director, producer, screenwriter, and film historian Martin Scorsese was the Jury President. History The company was founded illegally in 1943, during the German occupation of the Netherlands by ; its first publication was a poem by Jan Campert called ''De Achttien Dooden'' ("The eighteen dead"), which describes the execution of 15 resistance fighters and three communists.
