Little Prince (chief)
Little Prince or Tastanaki Hopayi, Tustanagee Hopae (Tvstanagi Hopvyē in Muscogee language, Mvskokē «Far Warrior» < ''ho·pv·yē'' «far») (died 1832) was an 18th-century chieftain and longtime representative of the Creek (American Indians), Lower Creeks from the 1780s until his death in 1832. During the early 19th century, he and Big Warrior shared the leadership of the Creek National Council. Biography Little Prince is first recorded in 1780 living as a chieftain at Broken Arrow, Georgia, Broken Arrow. During the summer, he joined British Indian Agent John Tate who led a combined force of Upper and Lower Creeks to support Colonel Thomas Brown (loyalist), Thomas Brown at Augusta, Georgia who was at the time defending the city against American forces. Muscogee Language
The Muscogee language (Muskogee, ''Mvskoke'' in Muscogee), also known as Creek, is a Muskogean language spoken by Muscogee (Creek) and Seminole people, primarily in the US states of Oklahoma and Florida. Along with Mikasuki, when it is spoken by the Seminole, it is known as Seminole. Historically, the language was spoken by various constituent groups of the Muscogee or ''Maskoki'' in what are now Alabama and Georgia. It is related to but not mutually intelligible with the other primary language of the Muscogee confederacy, Hitchiti- Mikasuki, which is spoken by the kindred Mikasuki, as well as with other Muskogean languages. The Muscogee first brought the Muscogee and Miccosukee languages to Florida in the early 18th century. Combining with other ethnicities there, they emerged as the Seminole. The Treaty of Colerain was signed at St. Marys, Georgia in Camden County, Georgia, by Benjamin Hawkins, George Clymer, and Andrew Pickens (congressman), Andrew Pickens for the United States and representatives of the Creek people, Creek Nation, for whom Indian trader Langley Bryant served as an interpreter, on June 29, 1796, proclaimed on March 18, 1797, and codified as {{USStat, 7, 56. Creek Stand, Alabama
Creek Stand (also Creekstand) is an unincorporated community in Macon County, Alabama, United States. History The community is named due to it being founded on the former site of a Creek Indian village. A post office operated under the name Creek Stand from 1850 to 1921. Creek Stand is located along the route of the Federal Road. A tavern was located in Creek Stand that was operated by Tustunnuggee Hopoie (Little Prince), who was the headman of Coweta and a Speaker for the Lower Creek. The Creek Stand A.M.E. Zion Church was founded in 1895 and the adjacent cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. Federal Road (Creek Lands)
The Federal Road through the territory of the Creek people was a project that started in 1805 when the Creek gave permission for the development of a "horse path" through their nation for more efficient mail delivery between Washington City (modern-day Washington, D.C.) and New Orleans, Louisiana. This section started at Fort Wilkinson near Milledgeville, Georgia, and ended at Fort Stoddert near Mobile, Alabama. By the time of the War of 1812, the Federal Road began in Augusta, Georgia, ran through Fort Hawkins (in Macon, Georgia), on to Fort Mitchell, Alabama (near modern Phenix City, Alabama), and was connected via the Three Notch Road to Pensacola in Spanish West Florida. Creek War
The Creek War (1813–1814), also known as the Red Stick War and the Creek Civil War, was a regional war between opposing Indigenous American Creek factions, European empires and the United States, taking place largely in modern-day Alabama and along the Gulf Coast. The major conflicts of the war took place between state militia units and the " Red Stick" Creeks. The United States government formed an alliance with the Choctaw Nation and Cherokee Nation (the traditional enemies of the Creeks), along with the remaining Creeks to put the rebellion down.
