''Little Mother'' (German: ''Kleine Mutti'') is a 1935 Austrian-Hungarian comedy film directed by Henry Koster and starring Franciska Gaal, Friedrich Benfer and Otto Wallburg. The film was made by a local subsidiary of the American Universal Pictures. The rights were later acquired by RKO who remade it in English as ''Bachelor Mother'' starring Ginger Rogers and David Niven.Jewell p.180 Synopsis After a girl discovers a deserted baby, it is widely assumed that she is the mother. Henry Koster
Henry Koster (born Hermann Kosterlitz, May 1, 1905 – September 21, 1988) was a German-born film director. He was the husband of actress Peggy Moran. Early life Koster was born to Jewish parents in Berlin, Germany. He was introduced to cinema about 1910 when his uncle opened a movie theater in Berlin. Koster's mother played the piano to accompany the films, leaving the young boy to occupy himself by watching the films. After working initially as a short story writer, Kosterlitz was hired by a Berlin movie company as scenarist, becoming an assistant to director Curtis Bernhardt. Bernhardt became sick one day and asked Kosterlitz to take over as director. Career In 1932, Koster directed his first film in Berlin, the comedy ''Thea Roland''. Koster, who was in the midst of directing his second film ''Das häßliche Mädchen'', had been the subject of antisemitism, and knew he had to leave. Annie Rosar (May 17, 1888 – August 5, 1963) was an Austrian stage and film actress who is best remembered today for her appearances in many Austrian comedy films from the 1930s to the early 1960s. In those movies, she was frequently cast in the comic roles of nagging wife (for example in ''Ungeküsst soll man nicht schlafen gehn'' opposite Hans Moser), "evil" mother-in-law, or understanding housekeeper, whether in rural (''Heimatfilme'') or urban settings. Minna Stern (20 March 1894 – 25 May 1982), known professionally as Hermine Sterler, was a German-American actress whose career spanned both the silent and the talkie film eras on two continents. Career Sterler, who appeared in several Hollywood films, was once affiliated with the Burgtheater in Vienna. She debuted in 1918 at the Residenztheater Hannover and later performed in Berlin, where she appeared at the Kleinen Theater ("Little Theater"). She played a saloon lady and, from 1921, often appeared in German silent film. She flourished as a character actor in roles of young wives and mothers. In 1930, she appeared as Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna in ''Rasputin, Demon with Women''.
