Little Lake Jackson
Little Lake Jackson is a lake, located within the city of Sebring, Florida. It has a maximum depth of . On the north side is U.S. Highway 27 and across from that is Lake Jackson. The lake has no public access directly, although it is connected by a short canal to Lake Jackson, which has a public boat ramp. Activities on the lake include boating and fishing. A golf course overlooks the southwest side and various businesses adjoin it on the north, along US 27. A hotel, Inn on the Lakes, is on its north shore. Historic Harder Hall, partially renovated but abandoned because of the developer's financial problems, is on the northwest shore. Sebring ( ) is a city in the south-central Florida and is the county seat of Highlands County, Florida, United States, nicknamed "The City on the Circle", in reference to Circle Drive, the center of the Sebring Downtown Historic District. Lake Jackson (Sebring, Florida)
Lake Jackson, covering 3,212 acres (12.95 km), is located within the city of Sebring, Florida. Sebring is the county seat of Highlands County. Lake Jackson, a healthy freshwater lake, is approximately 25 feet (8 m) at its deepest. Most of the area is fairly shallow. The water is clear as compared to most lakes and the shores are sandy. The lake has various boat ramps, including the popular public ramp at Veterans Beach on the lake's west side. Most ramps are private and there are many private beaches. Three public swimming beaches exist. One at Veterans Beach, at the north end of Lake Jackson, and Hidden Beach, near Faith Lutheran Church, and City Pier Beach is located just to the west of downtown Sebring. Harder Hall
Harder Hall is a historic former hotel building in Sebring, Florida. It is located on Lake Jackson, at 3300 Golfview Drive. It was regarded as one of the "Grande Dame hotels of Florida", until its closing in 1986. The hotel was designed by renowned Palm Beach architect William Manly King, and was considered the social center of Sebring. On June 20, 1990, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. In late 2022 former St. Petersburg City Council Member Robert G. Blackmon purchased the hotel for 4 million dollars. History Construction Vincent S. Hall acquired 2000 acres on Little Lake Jackson for construction of a resort to be part of the Biltmore Hotel chain. Hall, who was also involved in the Miami Biltmore Hotel, partnered with Lewis Harder to make the plan a reality. Dick Wilson (golf Course Architect)
Louis Sibbett "Dick" Wilson (1904 – July 5, 1965) was an American golf course architect, who designed over sixty courses. Several of these still have a high reputation. He was known for his technique of elevating the greens when designing courses in relatively flat terrain, and for using ponds and bunkers to emphasize the aerial approach. Early years Wilson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1904, where his father was a contractor. He worked as a water boy on construction of the Merion Golf Course in Philadelphia. Wilson was admitted to the University of Vermont on a football scholarship. After leaving university he joined the team of Howard C. Toomey and William S. Flynn of Philadelphia. In 1931 he supervised construction when Toomey and Flynn undertook a complete overhaul of the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
