Little Island, Cork
Little Island, County Cork, is a civil parish and mainly industrial area to the east of Cork city in Ireland. It is no longer an island, since the northern channel separating it from the mainland has filled over. To the west and south is Lough Mahon, part of Cork Harbour; across a channel to the east is Fota Island. Little Island is within the Dáil constituency of Cork North-Central. History The parish of Little Island dates to the seventh century, and tidal mills have been excavated dating to c. 630 AD. By the fourteenth century the parish was known as ''De Insula'', meaning "of the island". Henry Purdon, MP for Charleville, lived here in the eighteenth century. The current Church of Ireland parish church was built in 1865 in the Gothic Revival style. Midleton railway station is a railway station situated in Midleton, a town in south-eastern County Cork, in Ireland. It is the terminus station on the Cork to Midleton commuter service. Passengers can travel to Glounthaune station to transfer to Cobh. It has been rebuilt and reopened as a terminus station of the Cork Suburban Railway Line. The station currently has 2 platforms. In 1963 the line was taken out of regular passenger service, from then the line carried daily goods trains, summer excursions and the beet in season. N25 Road (Ireland)
The N25 road is a national primary road in Republic of Ireland, Ireland, forming the route from Cork (city), Cork to Rosslare Europort via Waterford City. The road is part of the European route E30, E30 European route and a short section is also part of the European route E01, E01 European route. It forms part of the proposed Atlantic Corridor route. Route Up to 22 February 2012, the Cork South Ring Road was designated as part of the N25. However, on 23 February, this section of road was redesignated as N40 road (Ireland), N40 and hence from this date, the N25 now commences at the Dunkettle Interchange. From the Dunkettle Interchange the N25 commences east as the ''East Cork Parkway'' dual-carriageway, with interchanges for Fota Island and Cobh, and also Carrigtwohill. Glounthaune railway station ( ga, Gleanntán) is an Iarnród Éireann station serving the town of Glounthaune in County Cork, Ireland. The station is at is the junction between Cobh and Midleton on the Cork Commuter line. History The station opened on 10 November 1859 by the Cork, Youghal & Queenstown Railway, with services initially only running onwards to Youghal. On 10 March 1862, passenger services began running to Queenstown from the junction as well. The line onward to Midleton and Youghal closed to passenger services in 1963 before re-opening again in August 2009 as far as Midleton The station was originally called "Cobh Junction" and was renamed "Glounthaune" in 1994; tickets issued from Iarnród Éireann portable ticket machines still print the station name as "Cobh Jct". There has been a suburban rail system in Cork since the middle of the 19th century; however, it was subject to line closures in the 20th century.
