The Black River is a river in Cochrane District and Timiskaming District in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is part of the James Bay drainage basin, and is a right tributary of the Abitibi River. The municipality of Black River-Matheson is named after the river. Course The river begins at an unnamed lake in geographic Morrisette Township in the municipality of Kirkland Lake, Timiskaming District, just north of Kirkland Lake Airport, and heads north into geographic Bisley Township in Cochrane District, then turns northwest, and enters geographic Melba Township in the municipality of Black River-Matheson. The Black River is a river in Thunder Bay District in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Great Lakes Basin, and is a left tributary of the Pic River. Course The river begins at an unnamed lake and heads southwest through geographic Nickle Township into the municipality of Manitouwadge to Agonzon Lake. It exits the lake over a dam east, then resumes a southwest course, passes under Ontario Highway 614, through geographic Lecours Township, then under Ontario Highway 17 and the Canadian Pacific Railway main line. Black River First Nation
Black River First Nation (sometimes Little Black River First Nation; Ojibwe: ''Makadewaagamijiwanoonsing'') is an Ojibwa First Nation located around O'Hanley, Manitoba, along the O'Hanley and Black Rivers, on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg. It is north of Pine Falls, and around north of Winnipeg. Though geographically situated in Eastern Manitoba, it is more so administratively a part of Northern Manitoba. Its reserve is called Black River 5 Indian Reserve, which spans and whose population was 521 as of the 2011 census. In January 2008, the total registered population of the First Nation was 977, of which the on-reserve population was 701. The settlement is accessible by an all-weather road (via PR 304) and 4 km of municipal road.
