Little Annie Rooney (other)
''Little Annie Rooney'' is a comic strip about a young orphaned girl who traveled about with her dog, Zero. King Features Syndicate launched the strip on January 10, 1927, not long after it was apparent that the Chicago Tribune Syndicate had scored a huge hit with ''Little Orphan Annie''. The name comes from the 1889 popular song of the same name, still familiar to many at the time. Although the King Features strip was an obvious knock-off with several similar parallels, the approach was quite different, and ''Little Annie Rooney'' had a successful run from January 10, 1927, to April 16, 1966. Darrell McClure
Darrell Craig McClure (February 25, 1903 – February 27, 1987), was an American cartoonist and illustrator best known for his work on the comic strip ''Little Annie Rooney'' from 1930 to 1966. The strip took its name from an 1890 song by Michael Nolan. McClure was born in Ukiah, California, where his mother was the painter Ethel Jamison Docker. At age nine, McClure moved with his family to San Francisco, where he went to art school at night, doing his first professional jobs at age 14. He was 17 when he began an apprenticeship in animated cartoons, and he studied at the California School of Fine Arts. After work in logging camps as a lumberjack, he was a sailor on commercial freighters in the Pacific, eventually traveling to New York City on a freighter. ''Ginger'' is a 1935 American comedy-drama film directed by Lewis Seiler and written by Arthur Kober. The film stars Jane Withers, O. P. Heggie, Jackie Searl, Katharine Alexander, and Walter Woolf King. It was Withers' first starring role. Plot Jeanette Tracy, known to her friends as Ginger, is an 8-year-old orphan living in a New York slum apartment with her "Uncle Rex", an aging Shakespearean actor. Jane Withers
Jane Withers (April 12, 1926 – August 7, 2021) was an American actress and children's radio show host. She became one of the most popular child stars in Hollywood in the 1930s and early 1940s, with her films ranking in the top ten list for box-office gross in 1937 and 1938. She began her entertainment career at the age of three and, during the Golden Age of Radio, hosted her own children's radio program in her home city of Atlanta, Georgia. The Fox Film Corporation (also known as Fox Studios) was an American Independent film production studio formed by William Fox (1879–1952) in 1915, by combining his earlier Greater New York Film Rental Company and Box Office Attractions Film Company (founded 1913). ''Little Annie Rooney'' is a short animated film that is part of the Fleischer Studios Screen Songs series. It is based on the popular song Little Annie Rooney and uses it in the soundtrack. The chorus: : She's my sweetheart, I'm her beau; : She's my Annie, I'm her Joe, : Soon we'll marry, never to part, : Little Annie Rooney is my sweetheart! Fleischer Studios () is an American animation studio founded in 1929 by brothers Max and Dave Fleischer, who ran the pioneering company from its inception until its acquisition by Paramount Pictures, the parent company and the distributor of its films. In its prime, Fleischer Studios was a premier producer of animated cartoons for theaters, with Walt Disney Productions being its chief competitor in the 1930s. Today, the company is again family owned and oversees the licensing and merchandising for its characters. William Beaudine
William Washington Beaudine (January 15, 1892 – March 18, 1970) was an American film actor and director. He was one of Hollywood's most prolific directors, turning out films in remarkable numbers and in a wide variety of genres.
