Lithuania In The Eurovision Song Contest 2009
Lithuania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Love" written and performed by Sasha Son, which is the artistic name of singer Dmitrij Šavrov. The Lithuanian broadcaster Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) organised the song contest ''Lietuvos Dainų Daina'' (Lithuanian Song of Songs) in order to select the Lithuanian entry for the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia. The competition took place over six weeks and involved 36 competing entries. The results of each show were determined by regional televoting. In the final, fourteen entries remained and "Pasiklydęs žmogus" performed by Sasha Son was selected as the winner. The song was later translated from Lithuanian to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "Love". Dmitry Shavrov (russian: Дмитрий Шавров, lt, Dmitrij Šavrov; born 18 September 1983), better known by his stage names Sasha Song or Sasha Son, is a Lithuanian singer and songwriter. He represented Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009. His stage name Sasha Son means "Sasha Dream" in Russian, with Sasha being a Russian diminutive form of the name Alexander. Stano (born Stanislav Stavitsky, russian: Станислав Ставицкий, lt, Stanislavas Stavickis; 25 November 1981) is a Russian-Lithuanian singer, songwriter, and author. He is the frontman of the musical group Delfinai. Stavickis has also written two novels, autobiographical ''Kiek kainuoja ilgesys'' (How Much Does Longing Cost, 2004), and ''Neįtikėtinos istorijos'' (Unbelievable Stories, 2008). Stavickis was born to a Russian mother and a Lithuanian father. Lithuania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the song "What's Happened to Your Love?" written by Michalis Antoniou, Linas Adomaitis and Camden-MS. Linas and Simona was a duo, which represented Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004. With 26 points they placed 16th in the semifinal and could not participate in the final. However, they befriended Ruslana, the winner of the Eurovision 2004, and together recorded ''Fight for Love and Freedom''. This song was released in album ''I Love U'' on 22 July 2005. LRT Lituanica is the third Lithuanian public television channel, operated by LRT. The channel broadcasts 24 hours per day and is a mix of original programming from LRT televizija and LRT Plius. LRT televizija, formerly known as LTV 1, is the flagship television channel of Lithuanian National Radio and Television (''Lithuanian:'' Lietuvos nacionalinis radijas ir televizija). History LRT televizija was launched on 30 April 1957 as LTV (Lietuvos Televizija), and began broadcasting in colour in 1975 using SECAM colour.
