Literature Of Cape Verde
The Literature of Cape Verde is among the most important in West Africa, it is the second richest in West Africa after Mali and modern day Mauritania. It is also the richest in the Lusophone portion of Africa. Most works are written in Portuguese, but there are also works in Capeveredean Creole, French and notably English. Capeverdean literature has long been known worldwide through the writing of poet Eugénio Tavares. Also Manuel Lopes, Baltasar Lopes da Silva, better known as Osvaldo Alcantarâ and Jorge Barbosa, the three would later found a review '' Claridade'' in 1936 which is related to Cape Verdean independence. History Early literature Its first recorded literature from Cape Verde was in the 16th century with some works written by André Álvares de Almada, he wrote annals of the Portuguese expansion, his most important was a treatise on the Rivers of Guinea of Cape Verde, an area between the Senegal River and Sierra Leone.

António Aurélio Gonçalves
António Aurélio Gonçalves, better known as Nhô Roque (25 September 1901 – 30 September 1984), was a Cape Verdean writer, critic, historian and professor. Life Gonçalves was born in the city of Mindelo, capital of the island of São Vicente. He was the son of Roque da Silva Gonçalves. He was absent from the island for 22 years after he headed to the imperial capital of Lisbon in 1917 after his high-school studies at the seminary on the island of São Nicolau. He attended the University of Lisbon where he studied medicine for two years. Later, he studied Fine Arts, history and philosophy. In 1938, he published a dissertation on irony in the work by Eça de Queiroz. He returned to his native island in early 1939. Eileen Barbosa
Eileen Almeida Barbosa is a Cape Verdean writer and former advisor to the Prime Minister. She has a bachelor's degree in Tourism and Marketing. In 2005 Barbosa received the National Pantera Revelation Prize for Short Stories, as well as the Pantera Revelation Prize for Poetry. ''Eileenístico'', a collection of short stories, was published in 2007. National Library Of Cape Verde
The National Library of Cape Verde ( pt, Instituto da Biblioteca Nacional e do Livro) is located in Praia, Cape Verde. The library was established in 1999. The library maintains the National Bibliography, contains the country's historical archives and the theses and dissertation bank and is a legal deposit. It also serves as the public library of Praia, the country's capital. Projects In 2001, the library established the Institute of the National Library and the Book (''Instituto da Biblioteca Nacional e do Livro'') which aims to promote literacy, particularly among children and young adults. Germano Almeida
Germano Almeida (; born 31 July 1945) is a Cape Verdean author and lawyer. Biography Born on the Cape Verdean island Boa Vista, Almeida studied law at the University of Lisbon and currently practices in Mindelo. His novels have been translated into several languages. He married Sam Stewart in 1970. Almeida founded the literary magazine ''Ponto & Vírgula'' (1983-87) and ''Aguaviva''. In 1989 he founded the Ilhéu Editora publishing house and has since published 16 books (nine novels). Published works His first work was ''O dia das calças roladas'' which was about an account of a strike on the island of Santo Antão, it was first written in 1982 and was published in 1983.
