''Lit from Within'' is a Canadian compilation album, released on Nettwerk in 1995. A benefit album to raise money for rape crisis centres in Canada, the album featured songs by several Canadian musicians, short literary readings by a number of noted Canadian writers, and the photographs of Vancouver artist, Beth Carruthers. Nettwerk
Nettwerk Music Group is the umbrella company for Nettwerk Records, Nettwerk Management, and Nettwerk One Publishing. Established in 1984, the Vancouver-based company was created by Nettwerk principals Terry McBride and Mark Jowett as a record label to distribute recordings by the band Moev, but the label expanded in Canada and internationally. Specializing in electronic music genres such as alternative dance and industrial, the label also became a major player in pop and rock in the late 1980s and 1990s, with label and management clients including Coldplay, Sarah McLachlan, Dido, and Barenaked Ladies. Taste Of Joy
The gustatory system or sense of taste is the sensory system that is partially responsible for the perception of taste (flavor). Taste is the perception produced or stimulated when a substance in the mouth reacts chemically with taste receptor cells located on taste buds in the oral cavity, mostly on the tongue. Taste, along with olfaction and trigeminal nerve stimulation (registering texture, pain, and temperature), determines flavors of food and other substances. Humans have taste receptors on taste buds and other areas, including the upper surface of the tongue and the epiglottis. The gustatory cortex is responsible for the perception of taste. The tongue is covered with thousands of small bumps called papillae, which are visible to the naked eye. Within each papilla are hundreds of taste buds. Kristy Thirsk
Kristy Thirsk is a platinum-selling Canadian singer-songwriter best known for her work with Delerium. Rose Chronicles She was the singer and a co-writer for the band Rose Chronicles, which was signed to Nettwerk in the 1990s. Rose Chronicles released two full-length albums: ''Shiver'' (1994), which won a Juno Award for Best Alternative Album, and '' Happily Ever After'' (1996). The band split up in 1997. Collaborations In the years that followed, Thirsk was featured as a guest vocalist and co-writer on albums by Delerium and Balligomingo. She sang the vocals in Front Line Assembly's cover of Madonna's "Justify My Love" and Mystery Machine's cover of Blondie's "Heart of Glass." Mae Moore
Mae Moore is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Her music is a blend of pop, folk and jazz. Her most successful album, 1992's ''Bohemia'', was an international hit, although her other albums have been successful mainly in Canada. Biography Moore grew up in Brandon, Manitoba where she studied art before moving to British Columbia to pursue music. Her first hit came by co-writing the song " Heaven in Your Eyes" (with John Dexter), which would later be recorded by Loverboy for the ''Top Gun'' soundtrack in 1986. She then worked with Barney Bentall and Colin Nairne from the band Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts, providing background vocals on their self-titled 1988 album ''Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts''. She sang background vocals on and appeared in the music video for the Legendary Heart's "She's My Inspiration" song from that album. Lynn Crosbie (born 7 August 1963) is a Canadian poet and novelist. She teaches at the University of Toronto. Life and career Crosbie was born in Montreal, Quebec, and now lives in Toronto, Ontario. She received her PhD in English from the University of Toronto, writing her PhD thesis on the work of the American poet Anne Sexton. She has taught at York, U of T, Guelph, and OCAD universities, and has taught shorter classes/workshops at Rutgers, Workman, Sistering, Flying Books And more. Lorna Crozier, OC (born 24 May 1948) is a Canadian poet who holds the Head Chair in the Writing Department at the University of Victoria. She has authored fifteen books and was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2011. She is credited as Lorna Uher on some of her earlier books. Life Crozier was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1948. Crozier attended the University of Saskatchewan where she received her B.A. in 1969, and the University of Alberta where she received her M.A. in 1980. Before publishing her poems and stories, Crozier was a high school English teacher and guidance counsellor. During these years, her first poem was published in ''Grain'' magazine. She also taught creative writing at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the Saskatchewan Summer School of the Arts, and the Sechelt Summer Writing Festival.
