List Of Renamed Cities In Belarus
The following is the list of cities in Belarus that underwent a name change in the past. Most formal name changes in Belarus took place when the country was a member of the Soviet Union (1919-1991). A problem with namings of Belarusian cities is their being multiple times translated into several languages officially used on the Belarusian lands: Old Belarusian language, Old Belarusian (Ruthenian), Polish language, Polish, Russian language, Russian, Belarusian language, Modern Belarusian. A significant wave of "automatical" city renamings followed the annexation of Belarus by the Russian Empire in the late 18th century, when the Russian administration transcribed the names of many cities from Polish language and not from Old Belarusian language, Old Belarusian. Hence, the Russian name of Hrodna was taken directly from Polish language instead of the ancient Ruthenian name ''Gorodno''/''Horodno'' (Городно). The Polish ''Brześć Litewski'' was translated into ''Brest-Litovsk ...

Geographical Name Changes In Turkey
Place name changes in Turkey have been undertaken, periodically, in bulk from 1913 to the present by successive Turkish governments. Thousands of names within the Turkish Republic or its predecessor the Ottoman Empire have been changed from their popular or historic alternatives in favour of recognizably Turkish names, as part of Turkification policies. The governments have argued that such names are foreign or divisive, while critics of the changes have described them as chauvinistic. Names changed were usually of Armenian, Greek, Georgian, Laz, Bulgarian, Kurdish (Zazaki), Syriac or Arabic origin. Turkey's efforts to join the European Union in the early 21st century have led to a decrease in the incidence of such changes from local government, and the central government even more so. In some cases legislation has restored the names of certain villages (primarily those housing Kurdish and Zaza minorities). Place names that have formally changed frequently persist in local dia ...

List Of Renamed Streets In Metro Manila
This is a partial list of streets or roads in Metro Manila, Philippines, that underwent a name change in the past. Background Many place names in the country were changed after the islands achieved full sovereignty in 1946, following nearly four centuries of colonial occupation. Motorways named after Spanish and American colonists were subsequently altered to those of Filipino nationalist leaders and figures. This practice continued with the adoption of Tagalog (via its standardised register, Filipino) as the country's official national language. Recently, streets have been renamed more aggressively after deceased or incumbent politicians, influential businessmen, and their relatives, which Filipino historian Gregorio F. Zaide described as a product of "bigoted nationalism" and "jingoism" done by self-serving public officials without regard to their historical significance.
