Country
A country is a distinct part of the world, such as a state, nation, or other political entity. It may be a sovereign state or make up one part of a larger state. For example, the country of Japan is an independent, sovereign state, while the country of Wales is a component of a multi-part sovereign state, the United Kingdom. A country may be a historically sovereign area (such as Korea), a currently sovereign territory with a unified government (such as Senegal), or a non-sovereign geographic region associated with certain distinct political, ethnic, or cultural characteristics (such as the Basque Country). The definition and usage of the word "country" is flexible and has changed over time. ''The Economist'' wrote in 2010 that "any attempt to find a clear definition of a country soon runs into a thicket of exceptions and anomalies." Most sovereign states, but not all countries, are members of the United Nations. The largest country by area is Russia, while the smallest is ... List Of Countries By Sex Ratio
The human sex ratio is the comparative number of males with respect to each female in a population. This is a list of sex ratios by country or region. Methodology The table's data is from ''The World Factbook'' unless noted otherwise. It shows the male to female sex ratio by the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States. If there is a discrepancy between ''The World Factbook'' and a country's census data, the latter may be used instead. A ratio above 1, for example 1.1, means there are more males than females (1.1 males for every female). A ratio below 1, for example 0.8, means there are more females than males (0.8 males for every female). A ratio of 1 means there are equal numbers of males and females. Rates are the average annual number of births or deaths during a year per 1,000 persons; these are also known as crude birth or death rates. Column four is from the UN Population Division and shows a projection for the average natural increase rate for the time period shown using the medium fertility variant. This means that population growth in this table includes net changes from immigration and emigration. For a table of natural increase, see List of countries by natural increase. List Of Countries By Past And Projected Future Population
Introduction All the figures shown here have been sourced from the International Data Base (IDB) Division of the United States Census Bureau. Every individual value has been rounded to the nearest thousand, to assure data coherence, particularly when adding up (sub)totals. Although data from specific statistical offices may be more accurate, the information provided here has the advantage of being homogeneous. Population estimates, as long as they are based on recent censuses, can be more easily projected into the ''near'' future than many macroeconomic indicators, such as GDP, which are much more sensitive to political and/or economic crises. This means that demographic estimates for the next five (or even ten) years can be more accurate than the projected evolution of GDP over the same time period (which may also be distorted by inflation). However, no projected population figures can be considered exact. As the IDB states, "figures beyond the years 2020-2025 should be taken with ...
