Ambassadors
An ambassador is an official envoy, especially a high-ranking diplomat who represents a state and is usually accredited to another sovereign state or to an international organization as the resident representative of their own government or sovereign or appointed for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment. The word is also used informally for people who are known, without national appointment, to represent certain professions, activities, and fields of endeavor, such as sales. An ambassador is the ranking government representative stationed in a foreign capital or country. The host country typically allows the ambassador control of specific territory called an embassy, whose territory, staff, and vehicles are generally afforded diplomatic immunity in the host country. Under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, an ambassador has the highest diplomatic rank. List Of High Commissioners Of The United Kingdom To Barbados
The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in Barbados, and head of the UK's diplomatic mission in Bridgetown, Barbados. As members of Commonwealth of Nations, diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Barbados are at the governmental level, rather than between their heads of state (King Charles III is head of state of the U.K., but not of Barbados which became a republic on 30 November 2021). Thus, the countries exchange high commissioners, rather than ambassadors. The high commissioner of the United Kingdom to Canada is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in Canada and is in charge of the British diplomatic mission to Canada. As fellow members of the Commonwealth of Nations, diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Canada are at governmental level, rather than between heads of state, sharing the same King. Thus, the countries exchange High Commissioners, rather than ambassadors. The offices of the British High Commission are at 80 Elgin Street in Ottawa, which was built in 1964 on the site of the old Grand Union Hotel. The British High Commissioner's residence is Earnscliffe in Ottawa on Sussex Drive. The house was built in 1855, was later occupied by Canada's first prime minister, John A. The High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Cameroon is the head of the United Kingdom's diplomatic mission in Cameroon. In 1960 the French colony of Cameroon became independent as the Republic of Cameroun. The southern part of British Cameroons merged with it in 1961 to form the Federal Republic of Cameroon. The country was renamed the United Republic of Cameroon in 1972 and the Republic of Cameroon in 1984. Cameroon joined the British Commonwealth in 1995: before then the British head of mission was an Ambassador, but now that Cameroon is in the Commonwealth the head of mission is a High Commissioner.
