Listening
Listening is giving attention to a sound or action. When listening, a person hears what others are saying and tries to understand what it means. The act of listening involves complex affective, cognitive and behavioral processes. Affective processes include the motivation to listen to others; cognitive processes include attending to, understanding, receiving and interpreting content and relational messages; and behavioral processes include responding to others with verbal and nonverbal feedback. Listening is a skill for resolving problems. Poor listening can lead to misinterpretations, thus causing conflict or a dispute. Other causes can be excessive interruptions, inattention, hearing what you want to hear, mentally composing a response, and having a closed mind. Listening is also linked to memory. According to one study, during a speech some background noises heard by listeners helped them recall some of the information by hearing it again. For example, when a person reads ...

Listening (band)
Listening was an American psychedelic rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in the late 1960s. Listening became the leading Boston stage act in 1968 and was an example of what is now called the Bosstown Sound. The band released one self-titled album on the Vanguard label and one non-LP promo single. The group is famous for its ambiguous song lyrics, sometimes related to marijuana and psychedelic acid trips. The group's sound reflected a confluence of hard rock and psychedelic influences, with added elements of progressive rock Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog; sometimes conflated with art rock) is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early 1970s. The Listening (Lights Album)
''The Listening'' is the debut studio album by Canadian recording artist Lights. It was released on September 22, 2009, by Sire Records, with global distribution handled by parent Warner Music Group, although in Lights' native Canada the album is released instead by Universal Music Canada under licence. By July 2017, the album was certified platinum by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), denoting sales in excess of 80,000 copies. Critical reception ''The Listening'' received generally positive reviews from music critics. ''Billboard'' contributor Mark Sutherland called the album a more accessible take on UK electronic music artists like Little Boots and La Roux. Ben Rayner of the ''Toronto Star'' said that people who can get past the saccharine preciousness, overuse of the vocoder and its "decidedly sleepy tone" will find an album that "actually proves itself a lot more inventive and unpredictable than its trappings initially betray." Camilla Pia from ''NME'' panne ...

The Listening (Little Brother Album)
''The Listening'' is the debut album of North Carolina trio Little Brother. It was released in early 2003 on ABB Records. Overview As the main producer for the group, 9th Wonder's instrumentals consist of chopped and manipulated samples of old soul records, reminiscent of Pete Rock and DJ Premier. Complementing the backdrops are MC's Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh with their tag-team wordplay and raps. On "Speed", they rap about the pressures of working a regular job while trying to survive in the rat race, while on "Make Me Hot", they make fun of people who hassle them for beats and studio time. They also do some uncanny impressions of old school era MC's on "So Fabulous". The underlying theme of ''The Listening'' concerns the group's effort to engage their listeners on a deeper level, and their frustration at casual listeners who pay little attention to lyrics and content and simply want to hear a "hot song". The interludes are performed by the members of a fictional radio st ...

Listening (song)
"Listening" is the debut single from Australian pop group Pseudo Echo. The song was released in November 1983 as the lead single from their debut studio album, ''Autumnal Park'' (1984). The song peaked at number 4 on the Australian Kent Music Report. Following the international success of "Funky Town", a remixed version of "Listening" was released in 1987 for the movie "North Shore" starring Nia Peeples. Background and release Pseudo Echo were formed in Melbourne in 1982 and were performing around Melbourne when music journalist Molly Meldrum attended one of their shows at Melbourne’s ‘Jump Club’. Meldrum was impressed, spoke highly of the group and convinced them to perform on the music TV show Countdown where they performed a demo version of "Listening" on 28 June 1983. While it wasn't unusual for Meldrum to speak in glowing terms about an up-and-coming artist, Pseudo Echo were the first unsigned artist to perform live on the show. Meldrum's introduction was: "We'r ...
