Hillerød Municipality
Hillerød Kommune is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Hovedstaden ("Capital Region"). The municipality covers an area of 191 km² (74 sq. miles), and has a total population of 48,728 (1 April 2014). The mayor of the municipality as of 1 January 2018 is Kirsten Jensen, a member of the Social Democratic political party. Overview The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town also named as Hillerød. The city of Hillerød also houses the administrative capital of Region Hovedstaden. Neighboring municipalities are Fredensborg municipality to the east, Gribskov municipality to the north, Frederiksværk-Hundested municipality to the west, and Frederikssund and Allerød to the south. On 1 January 2007, Hillerød municipality was merged with Skævinge municipality and ''Uvelse valgdistrikt'' of former Slangerup municipality as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007), forming the new Hillerød municipality. Jørgen Hansen Koch
Jørgen Hansen Koch (4 September 1787 – 30 January 1860) was a Neoclassical Danish architect. He was chief of the national Danish building administration from 1835 and director of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1844 to 1849. Koch and especially his wife Ida Koch were close friends of the writer Hans Christian Andersen, who would typically visit the Koch family on Friday evenings. Early life and education Joch was born on 4 September 1787 in Christianshavn, Copenhagen, the son of Jørgen Hansen Koch (1746–1801), a ship builder, and Anne Cathrine née Folkersen (1758–1809). He initially apprenticed as a carpenter. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1807 to 1816 where he studied under Christian Frederik Hansen, the leading Danish architect of the time. Frederiksborg Latin School
Frederiksborg Latin School (Danish: Frederiksborg Latinskole) is a former latin school in Hillerød, Denmark. The school changed its name to Frederiksborg State School (Danish: Frederiksborg Statsskole) in 1903. The school moved to new premises in 1958 and is now called Frederiksborg Gymnasium. Its old building at Søndre Jernbanevej 4A was built to a Neoclassical design by Jørgen Hansen Koch in 1836. It was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1945. History The first building The first latin school in Hillerød opened in 1566 but it closed again in 1586. A new school was established in connection with the completion of Frederiksborg Castle on 29 March 1630 but the school building was not completed until 1633. It was called Frederiksborg Lærde Skole.
