List Of World Three-cushion Billiards Champions
the World Three-Cushion Championship is a billiards competition held in the Americas. It was the most prestigious Three-cushion tournament up until the UMB World Three-cushion Championship popularized Three-cushion in Europe. The event was held in United States and from 1928 ran alongside the UMB World Three-cushion Championship, both as World Championship events. The Billiard Congress of America (BCA) stopped sanctioned World Championship events in the early 60s as popularity for 3-Cushion began to decline in the U.S. The rest of the events where held in Mexico and Argentina and were sanctioned by the Pan-American Billiard Confederation (CPB), until ending in 1975. Alfredo de Oro is the most successful player having won the tournament on 20 occasions. The oldest player to win the tournament is Willie Hoppe at 64 years old at the time of his victory. Three-cushion Billiards
Three-cushion billiards, also called three-cushion carom, is a form of carom billiards. The object of the game is to the off both while contacting the at least three times before contacting the second object ball. A point is scored for each successful carom. In most shots the cue ball hits the object balls one time each, although hitting them any number of times is allowed as long as both are hit. The cue ball may contact the cushions before or after hitting the first object ball. It does not have to contact three different cushions as long as it has been in contact with any cushion at least three times in total. History Three-cushion dates to the 1870s, and while the origin of the game is not entirely known, it evolved from one-cushion billiards, which in turn developed from straight rail billiards for the same reason that balkline also arose from straight rail. Its zodiac sign is Leo and was originally named '' Sextilis'' in Latin because it was the 6th month in the original ten-month Roman calendar under Romulus in 753 BC, with March being the first month of the year. Julius Caesar added two days when he created the Julian calendar in 46 BC (708 AUC), giving it its modern length of 31 days. In 8 BC, it was renamed in honor of Emperor Augustus.
