Donetsk Oblast
The Donetsk Oblast ( ukr, Донецька область, Donetska oblast, ), also referred to as Donechchyna ( ukr, Донеччина, links=no), is an oblast of eastern Ukraine. It is Ukraine's most populous province, with around 4.1 million residents. Its administrative centre is Donetsk; however, its Regional State Administration has been temporarily relocated to Kramatorsk because of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war. Historically, the region has been an important part of the Donbas region. From its creation in 1938 until November 1961, it bore the name ''Stalino Oblast'' as Donetsk was then named "Stalino", in honour of Joseph Stalin. As part of the de-Stalinization process, it was renamed after the Siversky Donets river, the main artery of Eastern Ukraine. Ivanivske, Donetsk Oblast
Ivanivske (), known as Krasne () before 2016, is a small town ( selo) in eastern Ukraine, located in Bakhmut Raion, Donetsk Oblast. It is located west of Bakhmut. History Ivanivske was founded in the 18th century as a dacha of Bakhmut by Protopope Ivan Lukyanov. The protopope was known for his spiritual leadership, and many Cossacks came to his farm to work for the sake of spiritual salvation. In 1776, the lands of the farm were given to Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Vasylyovych Shabelsky, who founded the settlement of Ivanivka on his new possessions. The village continued to grow, and by 1859, it had 667 residents, 87 farmsteads, an Orthodox church, a factory, and three fairs a year. By 1886, the population had grown to 767, with 135 farmsteads, an Orthodox church, a bench, and two fairs a year. In 1908, the village had 1,473 residents. Minkivka
Minkivka ( uk, Міньківка) is a village located in Bakhmut Raion of Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. It is located northwest of Bakhmut, on the M03 highway. History On 5 January 2015, there was a fatal vehicle accident involving local Ukrainian military units near Minkivka, in which a bus of soldiers collided with a military truck. Vyacheslav Abroskin, head of the Donetsk Oblast branch of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the cause of the crash was weather conditions: namely ice and poor visibility. 12 soldiers died and 22 were injured. Abroskin said an investigation was taking place. On 14 March 2023, during the battle of Bakhmut of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Minkivka was the last settlement under Ukrainian control on the M03 highway. On 26 August 2023, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that the Ukrainian military engaged in unsuccessful operations near the village.
