Târgu Jiu
Târgu Jiu () is the capital of Gorj County in the Oltenia region of Romania. It is situated on the Southern Sub-Carpathians, on the banks of the river Jiu. Eight localities are administered by the city: Bârsești, Drăgoieni, Iezureni, Polata, Preajba Mare, Romanești, Slobozia and Ursați. The city is noted for the Sculptural Ensemble of Constantin Brâncuși. History The city takes its name from the river Jiu, which runs through it. In antiquity, there was a Dacian village in around the location of today's city surrounded by forests. After the Roman conquests of Oltenia (101-102), military units were stationed around the roads that connected different important routes at the time. During the digging of the Târgu Jiu - Rovinari railroad, mosaics, coins, ceramics and Roman bricks were found in the south-eastern part of the city. Mintia-Deva Power Station
The Mintia-Deva Power Plant is Romania's third largest thermal power plant having 5 identical groups of 210 MW each and one of 235 MW thus totalling a capacity of 1285 MW. The power plant is situated in the Hunedoara County (South-Eastern Transylvania), on the banks of the Mureș, from the city of Deva. It is controlled by Electrocentrale Deva, a state owned company. The 3 chimneys of the power station are 220 meters tall. The plant has been mothballed in early 2021. Reasons cited are lack of investment in emissions control, several years of poor management and political interference in the plant's management. Boldur
Boldur ( hu, Boldor; german: Boldur) is a commune in Timiș County, Romania. It is composed of four villages: Boldur (commune seat), Jabăr, Ohaba-Forgaci and Sinersig. History The first recorded mention of Boldur dates from 1290, being mentioned in a Hungarian diploma with the name ''Bulder''. In the Middle Ages the name changed, but kept the same root: ''Boudor'' (1368), ''Boldur'' (1371), ''Boldor'' (1416), ''Boldur'' (1597), etc. At the end of the 16th century, it was part of the commune of Belinț and belonged to Transylvania. From 1690 to 1700 it is definitely called ''Boldur''. Around 1739 there were colonizations with Romanians from Oltenia (''bufeni''), against the background of the Austro-Turkish War, which caused the emigration of many families to Banat. In the past, the hearth of the village was on the site of the former cemetery.
