List Of Special Elections To The San Diego City Council
Special elections to the San Diego City Council are called by the San Diego City Council when a vacancy arises on the Council with more than one year remaining in the term. Most special elections are conducted in two rounds. The first is an open primary and the candidate with the most votes must have a majority of the votes plus one to win the seat. If no candidate wins a majority a second round is held with the two top candidates regardless of party. List of recall elections When applicable, the candidate who succeeded the recalled council member is listed. If the recall election was not successful the winner is listed as "none". San Diego City Council
The San Diego City Council is the legislative branch of government for the city of San Diego, California. The city council was first established in San Diego in 1850. The council uses a strong mayor system with a separately elected mayor who acts as the executive. There are currently nine members of the council. City council members serve a four-year term and are limited to two successive terms. History San Diego was first incorporated as a city government with a common council on March 27, 1850. However, the city went bankrupt in 1852 and the council was replaced by a board of trustees. A new charter was adopted in 1889 reestablishing a common council under the strong mayor form of government. Michael Zucchet
Michael J. Zucchet (born December 24, 1969) is an American Democratic politician, a former member of the San Diego City Council, and a former Deputy Mayor of San Diego. In 2005, he briefly served as the Acting Mayor of San Diego. Early life and career Zucchet earned a bachelor's degree in Business Economics and Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a master's degree in Environmental Economics and Policy from Duke University. Monica Montgomery Steppe (born 1978) is an American politician in San Diego, California. She currently serves as a member of the San Diego City Council representing City Council District 4. She is a Democrat, although city council positions are officially nonpartisan per California state law. She serves on the board of the California Reparations Task Force. Lorena Sofia Gonzalez Fletcher (born September 16, 1971) is an American union leader and former politician. Operation G-Sting, also called Strippergate, and referencing the G-String costume often worn by strippers and showgirls, was an FBI investigation into bribes and unreported campaign contributions taken by Clark County Commissioners in Clark County, Nevada (home of Las Vegas) and city council members in San Diego, California. These bribes were from the same lobbyist, representing two sets of strip clubs, and was the result of strip club owners Rick Rizzolo and Mike Galardi trying to remove local "no touch" laws affecting the girls in their clubs. Myrtle Cole is an American politician in San Diego, California. She was a member of the San Diego City Council representing City Council District 4 from 2013 until 2018. Benjamin "Ben" Hueso (born September 2, 1969) is an American politician currently serving in the California State Senate. Kevin Lee Faulconer (born January 24, 1967) is an American politician who served as the 36th mayor of San Diego, California from 2014 to 2020.
