This is a list of school districts in the U.S. state of Ohio, sorted by the name of school district. Districts will often shorten their names; for example, Sandy Valley Local School District is often referred to as Sandy Valley Schools. Districts are listed by the name the district uses to refer to itself. School districts in Ohio are classified as either city school districts, exempted village school districts, or local school districts. City and exempted village school districts are exempted from county boards of education, local school districts remain under county school board supervision. In Ohio, community schools (charter schools) serve as their own independent school districts. School districts may combine resources to form a fourth type of school district, the joint vocational school district, which focuses on a technical based curriculum. Akron Public Schools is a school district serving students in Akron, Ohio, United States, and nearby communities. It is located in the northeastern part of Ohio, less than south of Cleveland and north of Canton. Amherst () is a city in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. It is located west of Cleveland. The population was 12,681 at the 2020 census. History The original village, which eventually became known as Amherst, was established/founded by pioneer settler Jacob Shupe (who came to this area in 1811; however, what would become the specific “downtown” area was settled by Josiah Harris in 1818), although the original tiny village was first known only as "Amherst Corners" in the early-1830s. Alliance is a city in eastern Stark County, Ohio, United States. With a small district lying in adjacent Mahoning County, the city is approximately northeast of Canton, southwest of Youngstown and southeast of Cleveland. There are three elementary schools containing grades 1–5, and one early learning school containing only pre-school and kindergarten, one middle school, and one high school.
