Reptiles, as most commonly defined are the animals in the class Reptilia ( ), a paraphyletic grouping comprising all sauropsids except birds. Living reptiles comprise turtles, crocodilians, squamates (lizards and snakes) and rhynchocephalians (tuatara). As of March 2022, the Reptile Database includes about 11,700 species. In the traditional Linnaean classification system, birds are considered a separate class to reptiles. However, crocodilians are more closely related to birds than they are to other living reptiles, and so modern cladistic classification systems include birds within Reptilia, redefining the term as a clade. Other cladistic definitions abandon the term reptile altogether in favor of the clade Sauropsida, which refers to all amniotes more closely related to modern reptiles than to mammals. Distribution The species is distributed in China, but only on the island of Hainan (it is extirpated from the mainland Guangdong, Guangxi, and Fujian provinces), as well as Hong Kong. The populations from other parts of Vietnam and Laos are now regarded a separate species, the Vietnamese three-striped box turtle (''C. cyclornata''). Description This species has three distinct black stripes on its brown carapace, with a yellow, slightly hooked upper jaw and a yellow stripe extending from the back of the mouth. Burmese Roofed Turtle
The Burmese roofed turtle (''Batagur trivittata'') is one of six turtle species in the genus '' Batagur'' of the family Geoemydidae. It is a freshwater turtle endemic to Myanmar and was thought to be extinct until rediscovered in 2002. Less than individuals were known by 2018. The female Burmese roofed turtle grows significantly larger than the male; the male's usually green head transforms during the breeding season to a bright chartreuse-yellow with bold black markings. In 2007, an illegally traded individual was seen in Qingping market in Guangzhou, China. Conservation The Burmese roofed turtle is nationally protected and listed in CITES Appendix II. Chinese Stripe-necked Turtle
The Chinese stripe-necked turtle (''Mauremys sinensis'') or golden thread turtle, is a species of turtle in the family Geoemydidae. Like many other Geoemydidae, this species hybridizes vigorously with related and not-so-closely related members of its family. Description Chinese-stripe-necked turtles have a green body. As a juvenile, its carapace is grayish green and there are three distinctive ridges. This species has a characteristic broad yellow stripe extending behind the eye and down the neck; the carapace ranges in color from grayish brown to brown, and the plastron is yellow or orange with black blotches along the outer edges. Asian Leaf Turtle
The Asian leaf turtle (''Cyclemys dentata'') is a species of turtle found in Southeast Asia. They are quite common in the pet trade; their carapaces resemble that of a '' Cuora amboinensis'' hybrid. Feeding This species is omnivorous and feeds on vegetation and fruits, and also mollusks, crustaceans and fish. It is also known to be scavenger and very often seen to take carrion. Behavior The Asian leaf turtle is quite elusive and sighting is uncommon. It is not strong swimmer preferring instead to walk on the bottom of a body of water rather than swimming freely. Beale's eyed turtle (''Sacalia bealei'') is a species of turtle in the family Geoemydidae (formerly Bataguridae). The species is endemic to China. Description ''S. bealei'' has a yellowish-brown, smooth, rather depressed carapace spotted with black, and it has an olive-green head. Another form of this species has a brown carapace.
