Rockhampton is a city in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, Australia. The population of Rockhampton in June 2021 was 79,967, Estimated resident population, 30 June 2018. making it the fourth-largest city in the state outside of the cities of South East Queensland, and the 22nd-largest city in Australia. Today, Rockhampton is an industrial and agricultural centre of the north, and is the regional centre of Central Queensland. Rockhampton is one of the oldest cities in Queensland and in Northern Australia. In 1853, Charles and William Archer came across the Toonooba river, which is now also known as the Fitzroy River, which they claimed in honour of Sir Charles FitzRoy. The Archer brothers took up a run near Gracemere in 1855, and more settlers arrived soon after, enticed by the fertile valleys. Central Queensland Territorial Separation League
The Central Queensland Territorial Separation League was formed in Rockhampton in 1889 with the aim of agitating for separation of the Central Queensland region from the (then) colony of Queensland. The Separatists’ main complaints were the perceived under-representation of the Central region in the colonial Parliament, located in Brisbane, some to the south of Rockhampton, and the use of Central Queensland taxes and finances to fund the Queensland Government. Agitation for the division of Queensland into two or three smaller colonies had been a political question in the colony ever since Queensland separated from New South Wales in 1859. Earlier, unsuccessful, political movements for Central Queensland secession from Queensland had been launched in the 1860s and 1870s. ABC Television is the general name for the national television services of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Until an organisational restructure in 2017/2018, ABC Television was also the name of a division of the ABC. WIN Television is an Australian television network owned by WIN Corporation that is based in Wollongong, New South Wales. John Bean (cinematographer)
John Wayne Bean ACS (12 June 1963 – 18 August 2011) was an Australian cinematographer who worked at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) for over 20 years. Bean was born in Rockhampton, Queensland, to Judy (née Suthers) and Colin, a carpenter. He had a younger sister, Tammy. After graduating from Glenmore State High School, he initially studied graphic design at the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, before he majored in film and television and earned a Diploma in Arts in 1983. In 1984, Bean started working at regional television station RTQ7 Rockhampton. He then moved to DDQ10 Toowoomba two years later. From 1989 to 1994, he worked in the Canberra Press Gallery. In 1993, while working as a cameraman for ''Landline'', Bean became friends with reporter Pip Courtney. They married on 23 January 1999.
