The flag of Prince Edward Island consists of a golden Lion (heraldry), lion passant on a red field in the upper portion and a white field Defacement (flag), defaced with three oak saplings and a large oak tree on a green island in the bottom portion. Joe Ghiz
Joseph Atallah Ghiz (January 27, 1945 – November 9, 1996) was the 27th premier of Prince Edward Island from 1986 to 1993, an educator of law and a justice of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island. He was the father of Robert Ghiz, the 31st premier of Prince Edward Island. He was the first premier of a Canadian province to be of non-European descent, since followed by Ujjal Dosanjh and Ghiz's son, Robert. Early life and family Ghiz was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to Atallah Joseph Ghiz, a Lebanese corner store owner, and Marguerite F. Ghiz (née McKarris). Millie Gamble
Millie Gamble (1887–1986) was an amateur photographer from Prince Edward Island, Canada. Her photographs from 1905 to 1920 record life in the Tyron area. Biography Gamble was born in Cascumpec, Prince Edward Island on January 17, 1887. She worked as a school teacher in North Bedeque from 1905 to 1906 and in Tryon from 1907 to 1919 before leaving for Winnipeg to study nursing. After graduating from the Winnipeg General Hospital in 1922 she returned to Prince Edward Island where she worked as a nurse in Tyron until retiring in 1949. Gamble was given a Ray No. 1 camera in 1904 while visiting her uncle in Truro, Nova Scotia. Part of Prince Edward Island's first generation of amateur photographers, she took well-composed images of the Tryon area which record the way of life of the period. Lennie Gallant, CM is a Canadian singer-songwriter and instrumentalist from Prince Edward Island. His music crosses into the folk rock and country music genres, while celebrating the musical heritage of his home province. He has been presented with many awards for his performances and songwriting. Early life Gallant was born in Rustico, Prince Edward Island. His nephews Rowen and Caleb Gallant, the sons of his brother Mark, are also musicians associated with the folk band Ten Strings and a Goat Skin. Career Lennie Gallant began at an early age by playing guitar, harmonica and mandolin in local bands. Grant Macdonald is a silversmith and goldsmith company based in London. History Founded in 1969 by Grant Macdonald, Grant Macdonald began as a silversmith workshop and became a limited company in 1977. By the early 1980s Grant Macdonald produced many pieces for the Middle Eastern market. In 1998 they remade the orb and cross for the Dresden Frauenkirche which was installed in 2004. This piece was required to be made using the same materials and making process as the 18th-century original, which was destroyed by Allied bombings during World War II. Gerard Gallant (born September 2, 1963) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player. He is the current head coach of the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has previously served as the head coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets (2004–2006), Florida Panthers (2014–2016) and Vegas Golden Knights (2017–2020). He is a three-time finalist for the Jack Adams Award for NHL coach of the year, winning the award in 2018 for the Golden Knights' first season. Gordon Rick Dwyer (born January 25, 1978) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger who played five seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens. He last served as the head coach of the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in the 2021-22 season. Michael Dennis Duffy (born May 27, 1946) is a former Canadian senator and former Canadian television journalist. Prior to his appointment to the upper house in 2008, he was the Ottawa editor for CTV News Channel. In turning 75 on May 27, 2021, Duffy retired from the senate due to mandatory retirement rules. Lloyd Duffy
Lloyd Duffy (born December 8, 1944) is a Canadian retired Champion jockey in Thoroughbred flat horse racing who uniquely is also a licensed driver of harness racing horses. As a teenager, Duff began attending harness racing events at a racetrack near his home. He left school to go to work for a local stable and eventually made his way to Toronto, Ontario where he was introduced to Thoroughbred racing. Having the physique necessary to be a jockey, he learned to ride and in 1966 obtained his jockey license. While he started his new career slowly, after earning his first win on June 29, 1967 he soon became one of the top apprentice jockeys on the Ontario circuit. Duffy enjoyed an outstanding career in Canadian racing. Frequently among the top jockeys in wins during the 1970s and 1980s at Greenwood Raceway, and at Woodbine and Fort Erie Racetracks, he also traveled to compete around the world.
