Prešov
Prešov (, hu, Eperjes, Rusyn language, Rusyn and Ukrainian language, Ukrainian: Пряшів) is a city in Eastern Slovakia. It is the seat of administrative Prešov Region ( sk, Prešovský kraj) and Šariš, as well as the historic Sáros County of the Kingdom of Hungary. With a population of approximately 90,000 for the city, and in total about 110,000 with the metropolitan area, it is the third-largest city in Slovakia. It belongs to the Košice-Prešov agglomeration and is the natural cultural, economic, transport and administrative center of the Šariš region. It lends its name to the Eperjes-Tokaj Hill-Chain which was considered as the geographic entity on the first map of Hungary from 1528. Pál Maléter
Pál Maléter (4 September 1917 – 16 June 1958) was the military leader of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. Maléter was born to Hungarian parents in Eperjes, a city in Sáros County, in the northern part of Historical Hungary, today Prešov, Slovakia. He studied medicine at the Charles University, Prague, before moving to Budapest in 1938, going to the military academy there. He fought on the Eastern Front of World War II for the Axis, until captured by the Red Army. He became a communist, trained in sabotage, fought against the Germans in Transylvania and was sent back to Hungary, where he was noted for his courage and daring. In 1945 he joined the Hungarian Communist Party. In 1956 he was a Colonel and served with the General Staff in Budapest when during the Hungarian Uprising he was sent to relieve a unit at the Kilian barracks with some tanks and a company of officer cadets. Ivan Tásler
Ivan Tásler (born 16 July 1979 in Prešov, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak singer, guitarist, composer, and producer. His career is closely connected with the band IMT Smile. The history of IMT Smile started in 1992 when it was founded by brothers Ivan and Miro Táslers whose initial letters have given the name to the band. Later, the band has changed the name several times (Epitath, Ruka) and finally, in 1995, it was renamed to IMT Smile again. In that time, nine musicians were a part of the group. In 1997, the first album was released. ''"Klik-klak"'' had a great success in Slovak charts, the song "''Nepoznám''" became a number one in a very short time. In 1998, the new album, ''"Valec"'', came out and IMT Smile became a band of the year. Other albums (''Nech sa páči'', ''IMT Smile'', ''Exotica'', ''Diamant'') were successful as well. Albert Rusnák (footballer, Born 1974)
Albert Rusnák (born 14 January 1974) is a Slovak former football player and manager. His son is Albert Rusnák, who currently plays for American Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders FC. As a footballer, Rusnak senior was a member of the Kosice side which won the Slovak league title in 1997 and retained it a year later. However, he suffered fractures to both legs in a car crash on 2 December 1997 which claimed the life of Kosice midfielder Milan Čvirk. Ferenc Pulszky
Ferenc Aurél Pulszky de Cselfalva et Lubócz (17 September 1814 – 9 September 1897) was a Hungarian politician, writer and nobleman. After fleeing Hungary in 1849 and being condemned to death in his absence, he was able to return and resume his political career in 1866 under an imperial amnesty. Biography He was born at Eperjes, now Prešov in Slovakia. After studying law and philosophy at high schools in Miskolc, he traveled abroad. England particularly attracted him, and his German-language book ''Aus dem Tagebuch eines in Grossbritannien reisenden Ungarns (From the Diary of a Hungarian Travelling in Britain)'' (Pesth, 1837) gained him membership of the Hungarian Academy.
