''Curved Form (Bryher)'' is a bronze sculpture by Barbara Hepworth, modeled in 1961. It was an edition of seven. Examples are located at the Annmarie Sculpture Garden, Solomons, Maryland, on loan from the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and at the De Doelen concert hall, Rotterdam. ''The Blue Violin Player'' or De Blauwe Vioolspeler (1982) is a metal sculpture located near the Raampoortbrug bridge in Amsterdam Netherlands. It is also called ''Man Trying to Catch Tram 10'' or ''Man with Violin Case''. The identity of the artist is unknown. Background An anonymous artist began placing public sculptures in the city of Amsterdam. In 1982 the sculpture of a human figure running with a violin case was installed in Amsterdam. ''The Blue Violin Player'' portrays a man who appears to be rushing toward the Bloemgracht tram stop, while carrying a violin case. Design The sculpture was completed in 1982. It is a depiction of a faceless/invisible man who is running with a violin case in the direction of the Marnixstraat. The figure is headless and he is on the corner of Marnixtraat and Tweede Hugo de Grootstraat near the Jordaan district. Enschede (; known as in the local Twents dialect) is a municipality and city in the eastern Netherlands in the province of Overijssel and in the Twente region. The ''Torentje van Drienerlo'' (; Dutch for "Drienerlo Steeple") is a 1979 artwork by Dutch artist Wim T. Schippers, located on the campus of the University of Twente in Enschede. Description Schippers made the tower long after he had left a career in visual arts for television. In the 1960s, he was associated with the Fluxus movement and had gained a reputation for absurdist and controversial works of art, including the famous '' Pindakaasvloer'' (1962–1967), consisting basically of a floor covered with peanut butter. Bloemgracht
The Bloemgracht () is a canal in the Jordaan district of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It connects the Prinsengracht with the Lijnbaansgracht and runs between and parallel to Nieuwe Leliestraat and Bloemstraat in the Amsterdam-Centrum district. The canal is named after the bulwark "de Bloem", later called "Rijkeroord". From 1614 a windmill was located here, but it was moved to Haarlemmerweg in 1878. History The Bloemgracht was constructed in the first half of the 17th century as part of the Jordaan during one of the major Amsterdam city expansions; the so-called Third Expansion. Initially, dyers were established on and near the Bloemgracht. The Calkoen family in particular was active here. Manke Nelis
Manke Nelis (born Cornelis Pieters; 1919-1993) was a Dutch singer in the levenslied genre. Career Manke Nelis was born in Groenlo on 16 December 1919 and began his musical career as a bass player, often accompanying his brother-in-law, accordionist Johnny Meijer. In the 1950s he performed under the stage name Carlo Pietro and started singing the Amsterdam ''levenslied''. A motorcycle accident in France and a subsequent medical error cost him a leg; he reportedly spent the more than 100,000 guilders he received as compensation within a year. His biggest hit was "Kleine Jodeljongen" in 1987. In 1987 he narrowly survived a bus crash on an American tour with Dutch artists, near San Diego. He died of cancer 8 October 1993, at age 73. The Johnny Jordaanplein also known as a Johnny Jordaan Square is a public square in the center of the Dutch city of Amsterdam which features outdoor sculptures. The square was named for musician Johnny Jordaan and it was dedicated in 1991. History The square was named for a popular musician in the mid-1900s: Johnny Jordaan which was the stage name of Johannes Hendricus van Musscher. There is a colorful hut in the small square and bronze sculptures of Jordaan musical hall of fame. The English name for the square is "Johnny Jordaan Square".
