Associação Fonográfica Portuguesa
The Associação Fonográfica Portuguesa (AFP; English: ''Portuguese Phonographic Association'') is the recording industry association of the major labels in Portugal. Created in 1989, it succeeded GPPFV (Portuguese group of producers of Phonograms and videograms) and UNEVA (Union of audio and video editors). The AFP is the Portuguese group of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). The AFP gathers the main record publishers that operate in the Portuguese market and its affiliates represent more than 95% of the market. Record charts The AFP has two official charts: * Top 50 Albums * Top 200 Singles Top Albums The weekly album chart includes the best-selling albums based on physical sales. ''Existir'' (English: "To exist") is the second studio album by Portuguese group Madredeus. It was released on 12 May 1990 through EMI-Valentim de Carvalho. Style The music in ''Existir'' uses the same instrumentation as its predecessor, with classical guitar, keyboards, accordion, cello and vocals by Teresa Salgueiro. It combines Portuguese folk with the additional use of keyboards and synthesizers. Reception ''Existir'' reached number one in the Portuguese album charts and was 4 weeks at the top position. Rui Manuel Gaudêncio Veloso ComIH (born 30 July 1957) is a Portuguese singer-songwriter and musician. Commonly called "The father of Portuguese rock" (Portuguese: ''O pai do rock português''), Veloso was a major figure in the boom of Portuguese rock music in the 1980s. Madredeus () are a Portuguese musical ensemble formed in 1985, in Lisbon. Their music combines traditional Portuguese music, fado and folk music. Madredeus are one of the most successful music groups from Portugal, having sold over 3 million albums worldwide. History 1985–1993: Formation and first lineup Madredeus' first lineup consisted of Pedro Ayres Magalhães (classical guitar), Rodrigo Leão (keyboard synthesizer), Francisco Ribeiro (cello), Gabriel Gomes (accordion) and Teresa Salgueiro (vocals).
