Pipe Creek, Texas
Pipe Creek is an unincorporated community in Bandera County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, it had a population of approximately 66 in 1990. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. History A post office called Pipe Creek has been in operation since 1873. The community was named from Pipe Creek and was founded around 1870. Francis Marion Hodges was the first settler in the community in 1868. Oliver S. Shirley then settled two years later. Seventy more families moved to the area during the first decade of the town's development. Surnames of local settlers included Scott, Anderson, Newcomer, Vawter, and Morgenstern. A.M. Beekman was the first postmaster in the community. Its post office's name was changed to Pipecreek for a small amount of time in 1895. Burnet County ( ) is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 49,130. Its county seat is Burnet. The county was founded in 1852 and later organized in 1854. It is named for David Gouverneur Burnet, the first (provisional) president of the Republic of Texas. The name of the county is pronounced with the emphasis or accent on the first syllable, just as is the case with its namesake. History Indigenous peoples inhabited the area as early as 4500 BC. Later known tribes in the area include Tonkawa, Lipan Apache, and Comanche. During the 1820s-1830s, Stephen F. Austin and Green DeWitt conducted surveying and Indian-fighting explorations. Burnet ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Burnet County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,436 at the 2020 census. Both the city and the county were named for David Gouverneur Burnet, the first (provisional) president of the Republic of Texas. He also served as vice president during the administration of Mirabeau B. Lamar. Geography Burnet is located one mile west of the divide between the Brazos and Colorado River watersheds near the center of Burnet County. Needville is a city in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. It is within the metropolitan area. The population was 3,089 at the 2020 census. History August Schendel founded the town of Schendelville in 1891 that contained his house, a store and a cotton gin. Brazos Bend State Park is a state park along the Brazos River in unincorporated Fort Bend County, Texas (with a Needville postal address), run by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The park is a haven for a diverse mix of native wildlife and plants covering an equally diverse range of ecosystems. Brazos Bend contains areas of coastal prairie, bottomland forest, and a wide range of wetlands including open and semi-open lakes and transitional marshlands. Highlights of the park's numerous inhabitants include over 300 species of resident and visiting migratory birds and mammals such as the white-tailed deer, nine-banded armadillo, raccoon, and North American river otter.
