Kaohsiung Museum Of Labor
The Kaohsiung Museum of Labor () is a museum about labor in Cianjin District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The museum was originally officially opened in conjunction with the International Workers' Day on 1 May 2010 in Pier-2 Art Center. However, the soft opening was earlier, on 26 December 2009. In 2015, the museum was relocated from Yancheng to Cianjin District and was reopened on 25 July the same year. During the opening ceremony, various events and displays were held, such as retro marketplace and storytelling. Exhibitions The museum features the evolution of the labor force in the city, Taiwan's labor movement and the recent animation, comics and video games sectors. Transportation The museum is accessible within walking distance west from City Council Station of the Kaohsiung MRT. Jingtong Mining Industry Museum
The Jingtong Mining Industry Museum () is a museum in Jingtong Borough, Pingxi District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. History The museum building was originally the dormitory of Taiwan Railways Administration employees. In 2001, the building underwent renovation by funding from the Ministry of Interior to transform it unto a museum. In 2002, the museum was designated a local culture museum for Pingxi Township and was named Jingtong Mining Industry Museum. In 2003, the Council for Cultural Affairs provided NT$2 million for the museum to make fire protection system, disabled access and building occupation permit In 2004, the museum received NT$3.3 million subsidy to improve its surrounding environment, hold cultural events, conduct research and to promote its collections. Fort San Domingo
Fort Santo Domingo is a historical fortress in Tamsui District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. It was originally a wooden fort built in 1628 by the Spanish Empire, who named it "Fort Santo Domingo". However, the fort was then destroyed by the Spanish themselves, after losing the Second Battle of San Salvador to the Dutch Empire in 1642. After the battle, in 1644, the Dutch rebuilt a fort in the original site and renamed it "Fort Antonio". Since the Dutch were called "Red-haired People" by the Han immigrants during the time, the fort was then nicknamed "Fort Red Hair".(). In 1724, the Qing Government repaired the fort, and built a perimeter wall with four gates. From 1868 onwards the fort was leased to the British government as its consulate, and a new two-storey building was built nearby as the consul's residence. The War and Peace Memorial Park and Theme Hall () is a memorial in Cijin District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It commemorates Republic of China Armed Forces who died during the Chinese Civil War, Korean War and Pacific War. History The idea for the establishment of the memorial park was mentioned by Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu on 7 June 2008. The park was opened on 20 May 2009. The YM Museum of Marine Exploration Kaohsiung (MOME; ) is a museum about marine exploration in Cijin District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History After its rental tenure was approved by the Marine Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government on 18 January 2007, Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation established the Museum of Marine Exploration in Cijin Harbor, Kaohsiung. Xiaolin Pingpu Cultural Museum
The Xiaolin Pingpu Cultural Museum () is a museum in Jiaxian District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The museum was officially opened in 1996. In August 2009, it was destroyed by Typhoon Morakot. It was then rebuilt afterwards with a cost of NT$280 million. The reconstruction work was completed in 2012. Architecture The museum building spans over an area of 6,453 m2. It is housed in a two-story building with a theme of earth-terrace house. Its roof is decorated with straws and its wall is decorated with bamboos. Exhibitions The museum displays various aspects about the plain indigenous people of Taiwan. It exhibits the traditional agriculture and hunting methods of the indigenous people. It also features the history of the rebuilding efforts of the local community after the 2009 Typhoon Morakot. Takao Railway Museum
The Takao Railway Museum () is a museum in Gushan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The museum was formerly the Kaohsiung Harbor Station, built during the Japanese period. Then called the , the station was the first railway station in Kaohsiung. In 2003, the station building was designated a historical building by the Kaohsiung City Government. On 9 November 2008, the last train departed from the station at 5.30 p.m. After the station closure, the Railway Culture Society managed the station as the Takao Railway Museum. The museum is currently part of the Kaohsiung Museum of History. Architecture The museum building was built in a classic Japanese style with a Chinese hip style roof. Taiwan Sugar Museum (Kaohsiung)
The Taiwan Sugar Museum () is a museum about sugar in Ciaotou District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The museum building dates back to the Japanese rule of Taiwan when it was constructed as a sugar refinery factory in 1901 and completed in 1902. The factory underwent second and third stages of construction in 1905-1911 and 1911-1945 respectively which focused on the construction of leisure and religious needs of the employees. During World War II, two factories were damaged during bomb raids. They were then restored. Due to the declining of world's sugar price, the factory ceased to operated in 1999. The area was then turned into museum and opened in 2006. Transportation The museum is accessible from Ciaotou Sugar Refinery station of the Kaohsiung MRT. Taiwan Pineapple Museum
The Taiwan Pineapple Museum () is a museum of pineapple in Dashu District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The museum is housed in a refurbished factory constructed in 1925 called Jioucyutang Taifang Company, a factory that canned pineapples produced by farms around the region. In 2004, the factory building was listed as a historical monument by the Kaohsiung County Government. The building was then renovated and reopened as Taiwan Pineapple Museum in August 2018. Exhibitions The museum exhibits the history of the Jioucyutang Taifang Company and Dashu District. It also displays an overview of the agriculture activities in the region, especially of the pineapple industry. It has a collection of more than 50 canned pineapple labels produced by the company.
