List Of Missing Landmarks In Spain
This list of missing landmarks in Spain includes remarkable buildings, castles, royal palaces, medieval towers, city gates and other noteworthy structures that no longer exist in Spain, or have been partially destroyed. It does not include walls of cities. City gates are included. There are hundreds of ruins of destroyed landmarks all over Spain, although there are many famous structures standing. Many of these destroyed monuments could be important examples of cultures passed, of that cities today. The following is an incomplete list. The Hotel Internacional or Gran Hotel Internacional was one of the buildings that the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner constructed for the Universal Exposition of 1888 of Barcelona (Catalonia). The hotel was a building that was built in record time of 53 days. It was conceived as a temporary facility to welcome visitors to the exhibition and was demolished once the contest was over. The Exhibition Hotel The hotel was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1888, celebrated Barcelona between April 8 and December 9, 1888, receiving a total of 400,000 visitors from all over the world. The forecast of visitors from outside Barcelona and the lack of proper accommodation represented a disadvantage for the importance of the event, the first of this level that was held in Spain. Burgos
Burgos () is a city in Spain located in the autonomous community of Castile and León. It is the capital and most populated municipality of the province of Burgos. Burgos is situated in the north of the Iberian Peninsula, on the confluence of the Arlanzón river tributaries, at the edge of the central plateau. The municipality has a population of about 180,000 inhabitants. The Camino de Santiago runs through Burgos. Founded in 884 by the second Count of Castile, Diego Rodríguez Porcelos, Burgos soon became the leading city of the embryonic County of Castile. The 11th century chieftain Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (''El Cid'') had connections with the city: born near Burgos, he was raised and educated there. Castle Of Burgos
The Castle of Burgos was a castle and alcázar, located in the city of Burgos, in the hill of San Miguel to above the city and to above the sea. This hill was the subject of archaeological surveys by General Centeno in the years 1925 and 1926 trying to find Napoleonic military files from when the French in their retreat blew up the fortress. According to the results obtained in this excavation the origin of the castle dates to the Visigoths, and its oldest parts, to the Romans. The castle grew over the centuries, becoming a major fortification and residence of the kings of Castile. Following the accession of the Habsburg family the castle lost its importance as a royal residence, and during the French occupation, on June 15, 1813, the French army decided to leave the Castle of Burgos, and they destroyed it with explosives.
