Chester, Pennsylvania
Chester is a city in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. Located within the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area, it is the only city in Delaware County and had a population of 32,605 as of the 2020 census. Incorporated in 1682, Chester is the oldest city in Pennsylvania and is located on the western bank of the Delaware River between the cities of Philadelphia and Wilmington, Delaware. It was the location of William Penn's first arrival in the Province of Pennsylvania and the county seat for Chester County from 1682 to 1788 and Delaware County from 1789 to 1851. James Henry Gorbey
James Henry Gorbey (July 30, 1920 – October 24, 1977) was an American politician and judge from Pennsylvania. He was a Republican member of the Chester City Council from 1956 to 1963 and served as mayor of Chester, Pennsylvania from 1964 to 1967 during the Chester school protests. Gorbey was a judge of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas from 1968 to 1970 and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1970 to 1977. Early life and education Gorbey was born in Chester, Pennsylvania and served as a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Thaddeus Kirkland (born January 12, 1955) is an American politician who is the Mayor of Chester, Pennsylvania since 2016. A Democrat, he served as a member of the 159th district from 1993 to 2016. Early life and education Born in Chester, Kirkland graduated from Chester High School in 1973 and Cheyney University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. John A. Linder is an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the Chester City Council from 2010 to 2012 and Mayor of Chester, Pennsylvania from 2012 to 2016. Education and professional career Linder received his BA in Behavioral Sciences from Widener University, and M.Ed. from Kutztown University. Linder worked as an instructor and counsellor at Kutztown University from 1976 to 1980. Barbara Bohannan-Sheppard (born June 15, 1950) is an American politician who served as mayor of Chester, Pennsylvania from 1992 to 1995.
