It lies on the southern bank of the River Clyde, providing the lowest crossing to the north bank of the river at the Erskine Bridge, connecting the town to Old Kilpatrick in West Dunbartonshire. Erskine Ferry
Erskine Ferry sailed across the River Clyde from Erskine to Old Kilpatrick. The ferry was also referred to as ''East Ferry of Erskine'' as there was another ferry to Dumbarton a few miles down river, known as ''West Ferry''. It is reputed to be the oldest ferry crossing of the Clyde. The crossing was part of the A740 route from Paisley to Old Kilpatrick. It was established in 1777 and replaced by the Erskine Bridge in 1971. History At Erskine, the Clyde was shallow enough to ford on foot and had been used for this purpose in past centuries. The river was then dredged to allow large ships to sail upriver to Glasgow. This brought a requirement of a ferry service between Erskine and Old Kilpatrick. Initially, a passenger-only service was available. The Clyde Navigation Trust acquired the service in 1907 and added a vehicle ferry boat to the crossing. Blantyre Monument
Blantyre Monument is a commemorative stone in Erskine, Renfrewshire. The monument is in the obelisk style. It is situated adjacent to the B815 road; in a field on the border with Bishopton. History The monument was built to commemorate the bravery of Robert Walter Stuart, the 11th Lord Blantyre, who lived at nearby Erskine House (now Mar Hall). He was a Major-General in the British Army and served in the Napoleonic Wars with the Duke of Wellington. He was killed accidentally by a stray bullet in a street fight in Brussels in 1830. The monument was planned by friends who held him in high esteem. William Burn was the designer. It was constructed in c.1825 and became a category B listed monument on 27 June 1980. Formakin House
Formakin House is an early 20th-century mansion and estate in Renfrewshire, Scotland. It is located south of the Firth of Clyde, and west of Bishopton. Formakin was designed by Robert Lorimer for wealthy businessman John Holms, though the main house was never completed. It declined during the 20th century, but in the 1990s, restoration of the estate buildings was completed. The house is protected as a category A listed building, and other structures including the arched entrance gateway and bothy are category B listed. The grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, the national listing of significant gardens. Mar Hall is a Star (classification), 5-star hotel and golf resort in Bishopton, Renfrewshire, Bishopton, Renfrewshire. It is situated in Erskine House, a List of Category A listed buildings in Renfrewshire, category A listed building. Formerly the building was the Erskine (charity), Erskine Hospital. History The Lords Blantyre came into ownership of the Erskine Estate and Erskine House during the early 18th century. In 1828 Major General Robert W. Stuart, the 11th Lord Blantyre commissioned the present house. The latest Erskine House was constructed between 1828 and 1845 at a cost of £50,000. Gleddoch House Hotel & Golf Club is situated in a 360-acre estate in Langbank, Renfrewshire. Hotel Gleddoch House is a Victorian mansion built by Scottish industrialist Sir James Lithgow in the 1920s. It has further since opened as a 70 bedroom four star hotel, golf course, restaurant, spa, sports complex and wedding venue. The building has been category B listed since June 1971.
