List Of Industrial Music Labels
The following is a list of music labels that predominantly feature industrial music styles and that have released or distributed work by one or more notable industrial music artists or bands. The releases for each of the labels here listed can be categorized by one of the many industrial music genres for the entirety of, or a significant portion of, the label's lifetime. For the purposes of this list we are using a maximally inclusive definition of "industrial" music, taking a cue from S. Alexander Reed's characterization of genre as "both hazy and changing over time." Therefore, some labels, such as Cleopatra, Mute, and Play It Again Sam that began as predominantly industrial music labels but diversified over the years are included due to their significant contributions to the genre during those periods. Hate Dept
Hate Dept. is an American industrial/ punk rock band, formed in 1991 by Steven Seibold. Seibold is a multi-instrumentalist who writes, records and releases Hate Dept. albums with minimal outside help. He formed Hate Dept. in 1991 in reaction to fickle 'electro' audiences and antipathy towards live electronic bands, taking his sound in a more punk direction. Early years and Initial releases: 1991-1996 Hate Dept.'s debut album in 1994, ''Meat.Your.Maker'', appeared in ''Rolling Stone'''s Top 10 alternative albums, while Seibold was nominated 'Best New Talent' by ''Keyboard'' magazine. ''Omnipresent'', the second release by the group, was reviewed in ''Rolling Stone'' and ''Alternative Press'' and spent eight weeks on the CMJ RPM chart, peaking at #7. Cleaner (band)
Cleaner is the name of a German project specializing in electronic music. Formerly known as Cleen, Myer released several albums on the American industrial music record label, Metropolis Records, as well as the labels Zoth Ommog and Accession Records. History Cleen began as a side project of Haujobb's Daniel Myer, who teamed up with vocalist Thorsten Meier for the first few releases, beginning with 1997's ''Designed Memories''. After the release of their second album, Thorsten Meier left to pursue other interests, and Daniel Myer assumed all musical and vocal duties. For the third release, ''Solaris'', Myer changed the name of Cleen to Cleaner. Cleen, Cleaner, and Clear Vision have often been described as more synthpop oriented than Haujobb. Assemblage 23
Assemblage 23 is an electronic act from the United States, currently based in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. It was founded in 1988 by Tom Shear who writes the music and lyrics and does the recording himself. Live performances are supported by Paul Seegers on keyboards and Mike Jenney on drums. History 1980s–1990s (pre–Assemblage 23) Prior to starting Assemblage 23, Shear experimented with music under the name Man on a Stage, beginning in the early 1980s. Most of Shear's music at this point was instrumental, as he lacked the confidence to sing; the quality of the music itself was highly questionable by his own admission. Shear eventually began to add vocals to his music; at the same time, Shear was also playing bass in a live band called the Advocates. Accession Records
Accession Records is a German independent record label created by Adrian Hates the frontman of the band Diary Of Dreams in 1995 year. Have a division sub-label, Succession Records, who recorded some bands until 2010. Early in its existence, only DoD albums were released on the label, but in 1999 contracts were signed with other bands. At the same time, connections were made with overseas partner labels - Canadian Scratched! and American Metropolis Records. The names of the bands under contract are mainly known in the Gothic, darkwave, neo-folk, (new) wave, EBM and industrial. Toy (German Band)
T.O.Y. (Trademark of Youth) is a German futurepop/ synthpop band headed by Volker Lutz. The project originated as electro-industrial band Evils Toy until a change in membership and sound style precipitated the rebranding in the year 2000. History As Evils Toy Evils Toy started out in 1992 as the project of Volker Lutz and Thorsten Brenda. Thorsten and Volker were introduced by a mutual friend who knew that each of the duo were heavily into industrial music and were already working on music of their own. After completing several tracks together they sent a demo tape to several labels, including the German Hypnobeat label (a sub-label of Hyperium Records) who released their debut album ''Human Refuse'' at the end of 1993. Neuroactive is a Synthpop, Futurepop, EBM music group from Finland Finland ( fi, Suomi ; sv, Finland ), officially the Republic of Finland (; ), is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. De/Vision
De/Vision is a German synthpop musical group formed in 1988. The band started as a quartet consisting of Thomas Adam, Steffen Keth, Stefan Blender, and Markus Ganssert. Blender left the band in 1991 and Ganssert departed in 2000. The name De/Vision is a play on words. The majority of the band's lyrics are in English, but they have had some songs in German. In 2000, Keth started a side project as the vocalist with Green Court, called 'Green Court featuring De/Vision'. The band with remaining members Keth and Adam were then signed to Drakkar Records and Sony BMG in Europe, and Dancing Ferret Discs in North America. The band is currently signed to Metropolis Records in North America. Code 64
Code 64 is an electronic music band from Sweden. Their music can best be described as a mixture of synthpop, electronic body music and electropop. Biography Code 64 is a synthpop, darkwave, electronica band that signed with the small Norwegian record label, "Angel Productions" only three years after establishing themselves as a group. They released their first album ''Storm'' in 2003, which contained nine original tracks. The album quickly sold out and Code 64 began to establish a fan base across Europe. Blume (band)
Blume are an Italian electronic music band formed in Milan in 2008. The group consists of Enrico Filisetti (Vocals), Ivan Savino (Synthesizers & Programming), and Daniele De Fabritiis (Guitars). Their sound blends EBM-Futurepop with Synthpop and Darkwave. History With the online release of the first recordings, they capture the curiosity of media and critics, arousing the interest of the following and of some labels. A Different Drum was an independent record label and online store based in Smithfield, Utah, founded in 1996. The label specialized in synthpop and related genres. A Different Drum has released hundreds of albums, singles, and compilations and was the biggest synthpop label in the U.S. The label is credited with helping to keep the synthpop genre progressing during the grunge rock mid-1990s and into the early 2000s, particularly supporting American Synthpop Groups ( Cosmicity, The Echoing Green, B! Machine and others) in their early years. The label also supported older synthpop bands which previously had Billboard chart hits during the 1980s, such as Alphaville (band), and Real Life (band), putting out releases for both bands during this time. Xorcist
Xorcist is the name of an American musical group whose output has ranged from electro-industrial and ambient. Background Peter Stone (a.k.a. Bat) formed Xorcist in 1990 as a one-man act. By 1997, Xorcist grew to include Evoltwin. In addition to providing some vocals, Evoltwin created the cover art for ''Soul Reflection'' and other subsequent releases. Stone also created two side projects, Xenon and Diode Fetish. Stone still DJs and VJs under the name DJ/VJ Bat, and maintains the Xorcist.com website to promote his work.
