List Of Individuals Executed In Indiana
The following is a list of people executed by the U.S. state of Indiana since its statehood. A total of 20 people convicted of murder have been executed by the state of Indiana in the United States since the reinstatement of the death penalty in 1977. Before 1995, electrocution was the sole method of execution. This was replaced with lethal injection in 1995. The executions on this list are of those executed by the state government of Indiana; this list does not include persons executed within Indiana by the Federal Government. Two other people, Alton Coleman and Michael Lee Lockhart, were sentenced to death in Indiana, but executed in other states. Frank O'Bannon
Frank Lewis O'Bannon (January 30, 1930 – September 13, 2003) was an American politician who served as the 47th governor of Indiana from 1997 until his death in 2003. As of October 2022, he remains the most recent United States Governor to have died in office. O'Bannon was a native of Corydon, Indiana. He graduated from Corydon High School (now Corydon Central High School) in 1948 and then Indiana University, where he met his wife Judy. In Corydon, he served as a practicing attorney and a newspaper publisher for ''The Corydon Democrat'' before his entrance into the political arena. A Democrat, O'Bannon was first elected to the Indiana Senate in 1969. He eventually became one of the body's most prominent members. Eric Wrinkles
Matthew Eric Wrinkles (January 3, 1960 – December 11, 2009) was a convicted multiple murderer. He served 14 years at Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, Indiana, and was executed there on December 11, 2009. Crime On July 21, 1994, Wrinkles murdered his estranged wife, Debra Jean Wrinkles; his brother-in-law, Tony Fulkerson; and Fulkerson's wife, Natalie Fulkerson; at their residence in Evansville. Debra Wrinkles and her two children had been living with the Fulkersons since her separation from Wrinkles. Wrinkles blamed his actions on his addiction to methamphetamine. Two weeks before the murders took place, Wrinkles' mother had made efforts to have him committed to a psychiatric facility due to his erratic behavior, but was informed that he didn't meet the criteria.
