Allan Cup
The Allan Cup is the trophy awarded annually to the national senior amateur men's ice hockey champions of Canada. It was donated by Sir Montagu Allan of Ravenscrag, Montreal, and has been competed for since 1909. The current champions are the Lacombe Generals, who captured the 2019 Allan Cup in Lacombe, Alberta. History In 1908, a split occurred in the competition of ice hockey in Canada. The top amateur teams left the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association, which allowed professionals, to form the new Inter-Provincial Amateur Hockey Union (IPAHU), a purely amateur league. Grand Falls-Windsor is a town located in the central region of the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, with a population of 13,853 at the 2021 census. Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts
The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts are a senior ice hockey team based in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador and a member of the Central Division of the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League. Since it was founded in 1966, the Cataracts hockey club has been awarded the Herder Memorial Trophy eight times as all-Newfoundland senior hockey champions, including three consecutive championships from 2014 to 2016. The Cataracts were awarded the Evening Telegram Trophy on four occasions for finishing first overall in the NSHL regular season. The Cataracts won the Allan Cup in 2017 in Bouctouche, NB. Deer Lake is a town in the western part of the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The town derives its name from Deer Lake and is situated at the outlet of the upper Humber River at the northeastern end of the lake. History The first settlers in the area arrived from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia in 1864. Originally loggers and trappers, the settlers later took up farming. In 1922, a work camp was set up to support the International Pulp and Paper company. The camp would later become the town of Deer Lake. The Corner Brook Royals are a senior ice hockey team based in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador and a member of the West Coast Senior Hockey League (WCSHL). History The Corner Brook Royals have their roots in picked teams from the local senior league beginning in 1927. Hockey in Corner Brook was first organized in 1925 following the completion of the pulp and paper mill.
