Czech Koruna
The koruna, or crown, (sign: Kč; code: CZK, cs, koruna česká) has been the currency of the Czech Republic since 1993. The koruna is one of the European Union's 9 currencies, and the Czech Republic is legally bound to adopt the euro currency in the future. The official name in Czech is (plural , though the zero-grade genitive plural form is used on banknotes and coins of value 5 Kč or higher). Po strništi bos (English - Barefoot, or Barefoot on Stalks) is a 2017 Czech war comedy film directed by Jan Svěrák. It is a prequel to ''The Elementary School''. Plot The film follows the young boy Eda Souček and his extended family during World War II. The family has to move to his family's home in the countryside home because Eda's father refuses to Heil in his job. Eda makes new friends and gets used to life in village. He also meets his uncle who is known as Vlk. Vlk doesn't get along with rest of the family because he tried to strangle his mother. Eda eventually befriends Vlk. Life in the village is influenced by war. ''Year of the Devil'' ( cs, Rok ďábla) is a 2002 Czech mockumentary film directed by Petr Zelenka. It stars musicians who act as themselves: Czech folk music band Čechomor, musicians and poets Jaromír Nohavica, Karel Plihal and British musician and composer Jaz Coleman. The soundtrack also includes two pieces by the Killing Joke: ''Frenzy'' and ''Exorcism''. Plot Dutch documentary film director, Jan Holman, goes to the Czech Republic to make a film about curing alcoholism. At an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting he finds a man named Jaromir Nohavica who becomes his friend. Jan Hřebejk
Jan Hřebejk (; born 27 June 1967) is a Czechs, Czech film director and actor. Life and career Born in Prague, Hřebejk graduated from high school in 1987 and continued his studies at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) from 1987 to 1991, majoring in screenplay and dramaturgy. He was at FAMU alongside Petr Jarchovský, who is also his classmate from high school and subsequently a frequent collaborator as a screenwriter. While at FAMU, Hřebejk directed and produced two short films, ''Co všechno chcete vědět o sexu a bojíte se to prožít'' (1988) and ''L. P. 1948'' (1989), from scripts written by his classmate Petr Zelenka (director), Petr Zelenka. ''Up and Down'' ( cs, Horem pádem) is a 2004 Czech comedy film directed by Jan Hřebejk. The film first premiered in France at the Cannes Film Market on May 19, 2004. The film was the Czech Republic's submission to the 77th Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but was not accepted as a nominee. Plot Milan and Goran are two criminals who smuggle illegal immigrants. One night after they complete a smuggle, they discover that one of the immigrants has left a baby behind. Milan and Goran decide to sell the baby to Lubos and Eman, who are responsible for running an illegal baby adoption center. Lubos and Eman make attempts to sell the baby to Miluska and Frantisek, a barren couple. Concurrently a university professor is diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, setting into action a complicated train of family reunions, partings, and conflicts. Filip Renč
Filip Renč (born 17 August 1965) is a Czech film director, screenwriter, and actor. Biograph Filip Renč was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Since his childhood, he already proved his enthusiasm for movies and drama. As a young boy he appeared in several movies, including ''Julek'' (1980) and ''Leve kridlo'' (1983). During his studies at FAMU (Film and TV School of The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague) he created documentaries (Zapadákov, Srdíčko) for which he was awarded at the International film schools festival in 1987 and 1988. Juraj Jakubisko
Juraj Jakubisko (born 30 April 1938) is a Slovak film director. He has directed fifteen feature films, between 1967 and 2008. He often takes the dual role of cinematographer, and is often also credited as a screenplay writer as he usually co-writes or writes the scripts of his movies. In 2000 he was named Best Slovak Director of the 20th century by film critics and journalists. His work is often described as magical realism. Career Before entering the film industry, Jakubisko taught still photography at a secondary school for applied arts in Bratislava, and worked for a television company in Košice. In 1960 he moved to Prague where he attended the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU), studying film direction under Václav Wasserman. Marie Poledňáková (, 7 September 1941 – 8 November 2022) was a Czech film director, screenwriter, writer, and media entrepreneur. She graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in 1970. Biography Poledňáková was born in Strakonice, the daughter of a university professor, and was raised in Nepomuk. After graduating from high school, she wanted to study chemistry, but this was not allowed: some members of her family had emigrated from the then-communist country and this was considered a serious offense which affected the rest of the family. Thus, instead of going to college, she went to work in a cookware factory. Poledňáková married Ivan Poledňák, a musicologist, and they had one son, Petr Poledňák. Zdeněk Troška (born 18 May 1953) is a Czech film director and screenwriter. He mainly directs comedies and fairy-tale films. Personal life Troška is deeply connected with the South Bohemian Region. ''Three Brothers'' ( cz, Tři bratři) is a 2014 Czech film directed by Jan Svěrák and written by his father, Zdeněk Svěrák. Plot The film is about brothers Jan, Pepa and Matěj. They set up to find a bride. The film is divided into three parts. Each part follow one brother as he finds his love. Jan saves Sleeping Beauty and a cursed Kingdom.
